Disney's Hollywood Studios is a nod to the "Hollywood that never was and always will be." When it opened in 1989, it was a real, working television and movie studio built into a theme park setting. Numerous television shows and movies were filmed on location. These days, the Studios no longer hosts active productions. Instead, the various soundstages have been transformed into attractions and experiences that allow guests to "step into" some of their favorite Disney movies. As you enter the park, you are transformed to 1940's Hollywood and its Art Deco style. Shiny chrome, flashing neon, and streamlined architecture outline Hollywood Boulevard, a collection of shops and guest services that leads the way to Hollywood Plaza, the "hub", more or less, of the park. Whether you like action, suspense, comedy, or musicals, Disney's Hollywood Studios can deliver!

WHAT'S HAPPENING AT DISNEY'S HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS?
COMING ATTRACTIONS!
Disney's Hollywood Studios is about to change in a dramatic way! Recently announced by Walt Disney Company C.E.O. Bob Iger at the D23 Convention in August, huge changes (including a possible name change) are in the works for this park. Ground will break in 2016 on two new projects: Star Wars Land and Toy Story Land. These two massive projects will create the largest theme park expansion in Walt Disney World history. Clocking in at 14 acres and 12 acres, respectively, the two new lands will anchor opposite ends of the park, increasing the amount of attractions the park has to offer, a move that is desperately needed. Among the new offerings will be a total of four new rides (2 for Star Wars Land, 2 for Toy Story Land), new eateries, and new character meet & greet opportunities. These two new lands will be fully "experiential," allowing guests to be fully immersed into the themes of the land and feel like they have stepped into the movies. Although completion dates have not been announced, work is expected to take anywhere from 3-5 years. We are looking forward to seeing what is in store for the Studios, and will keep the site updated as new information becomes available.
New concept art for Star Wars land was unveiled during the Wonderful World of Disney: Disneyland 60 televistion special. Plans for the new land include a Millenium Falcon attraction, where guests will be able to sit at the controls of the "fastest ship in the galaxy," in complete control of the experience.  A second attraction will put guests in the middle of a tense battle with the First Order. From the looks of it, this experience seems like it will use a combination of motion simulator and projection technology. Also announced, a dinner theater type experience and the famous Cantina bar will be coming to life when Star Wars land is complete.

• Disney's Hollywood Studios has nearly doubled in size since opening day in 1989. It continues to expand with all-new thrilling attractions, Broadway-style shows and backstage glimpses.
  
• Some of the many television shows which have taped at Disney-MGM Studios include: "ER," "Full House," "Wheel of Fortune," "Thunder in Paradise," "Miss Collegiate African American Pageant" and "ESPN College Football Awards."
  
• In the mid '80s, a greatly expanded production schedule for the Walt Disney Company demanded more facilities. Rather than buy expensive land in California, the company realized it had plenty of land in Florida and the opportunity to combine its new production facilities with a chance for Walt Disney World guests to see behind the scenes of movie and television production.
  
  
• Disney's Hollywood Studios was originally called Disney-MGM Studios. The name changed in January 2008.
