Volunteer Service in 2010, Get a Day of Disney Theme Park Fun – Free
Disney
Parks today announced a new program that celebrates the spirit of volunteer
service with a simple proposition: “Give a Day, Get a Disney Day.” Disney
hopes to inspire families to volunteer in their communities during 2010
through this first-of-its-kind program. One million people who perform
volunteer service for a participating organization will receive a free
one-day admission ticket to a Walt Disney World Resort or Disneyland Resort
theme park. The program officially begins January 1, 2010.

Resort Transportation Management Restructured
According
to the Orlando Sentinel, Walt Disney World is shaking up its transportation
leadership, after a turbulent summer that included the first fatal monorail
accident in the resort's history. Disney has appointed Jim Vendur, a vice
president who had previously been in charge of transportation maintenance,
to oversee both operations and maintenance of a system of that includes the
15-mile monorail, ferryboats and a fleet of about 300 buses. Vendur's
responsibilities also include utilities and telecommunications at the
resort.
Remember Those Fantasyland Plans That Leaked? They're All True...
Jay Rasulo
confirmed at D23 the validity documents that were leaked to the internet and
posted here in July. This means a new Little Mermaid "E-Ticket", Gaston's
Restaurant, Expanded and Enhanced Dumbo, Princess Homes and Pixie Hollow are
all coming to Walt Disney World. Rasulo outlined plans for the largest
expansion in the history of the Magic Kingdom, vastly increasing the size of
Fantasyland by 2013.
A
bird's-eye view of the vastly-expanded Fantasyland at the Magic Kingdom in
Walt Disney World which will offer Guests a new land of enchantment in a
magical fairy tale forest just beyond the castle walls.
Fans of
Disney's animated classic, The Little Mermaid, will journey under the sea to
meet Ariel and her friends on an exciting new musical adventure. This new
attraction will take guests through beautifully rendered scenes featuring
classic songs from the popular animated feature.
One of the
Magic Kingdom's most beloved attractions, Dumbo the Flying Elephant, is
completely re-imagined when the circus comes to town. Guests are invited to
step into the big top and join the circus before their magical flight over
Fantasyland.

D23 EXPO Going On Now!
Day one is in the
books! It was a successful start for the D23 Expo in Anaheim, CA as Disney's
ultimate fans were treated to an address by Disney President and CEO Bob
Iger, the 2009 Disney Legends Induction Ceremony, an awesome exhibit of
artifacts from the Disney Archives and plenty of star power. Day two will
surely be just as exciting!

Peek At Star Tours II
In an exciting scene from the new Star Tours, guests aboard Starspeeders
will join in a high-speed pod race through the desert canyons of Tatooine.
The launch of the new StarWars based attraction was announced at the D23
Expo on Saturday by Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Jay Rasulo.

Castaway Cay Expansion Underway
Castaway Cay, Disney's private island paradise in the
tropical waters of the Bahamas, is getting an extra dose of pixie dust.
Planned enhancements will provide guests with more water-based family-fun,
additional conveniences and a slice of beachside luxury all designed to
complement the idyllic island setting. The additional island amenities are
scheduled to be complete by summer 2010, in time for special five-night
cruises aboard the Disney Wonder with two stops at Castaway Cay, and the
Disney Dream cruise ship which starts sailing in early 2011. Details of

Building
on its strategy of delivering quality branded content to people around the
world, The Walt Disney Company has agreed to acquire Marvel Entertainment,
Inc. in a stock and cash transaction, the companies announced today. Under
the terms of the agreement and based on the closing price of Disney on
August 28, 2009, Marvel shareholders would receive a total of $30 per share
in cash plus approximately 0.745 Disney shares for each Marvel share they
own.
