Effective, 6/22/16 Guests who complete three A Pirates Adventure - Treasures of the Seven Seas interactive games are awarded a bonus FastPass+ for Pirates of the Caribbean. Guests seeking this theme park “gold” should consider that three of interactive games may take a total of 60 minutes to complete on average.

The Disney Springs Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique is now located in the rear section of the Once Upon a Toy building. Cast have reported that the new location features a larger “transformation” area and new interactive features.

Margret Almer & The Bavarian Band debuted earlier this month at a new Bavarian themed stage constructed in Epcot’s Germany pavilion. The new musical group is currently performing 25 minute shows Thursday through Sunday at 1:05 pm, 2:10 pm, 3:10 pm, 5:00 pm, 6:00 pm, 7:00 pm & 8:00 pm.

Miss Fortune Falls will be a family-style raft attraction that takes guests on a splashing journey through the fabled Captain Mary Oceaneer’s past. Legend has it that Captain Oceanear, a treasure-hunting heroine, traveled across the sea collecting unique artifacts before she became stranded at Typhoon Lagoon many years ago by a rogue storm. Aboard treasure rafts, guests will ascend to the top of the attraction before plunging into a white-water adventure where they will be able to spot some of the treasures Captain Oceanear gathered from around the world. With a ride time of two minutes, Miss Fortune Falls will be among the lengthiest attractions at both Disney Water Parks.

>> The first seasonal finale for Mickey's Royal Friendship Faire debuted in September. The new Autumn Finale features new costumes, new choreography, and a new original song.

>> The Muppets have arrived at Magic Kingdom Park, where they’re taking part in an all-new live show, “The Muppets Present… Great Moments in American History.” Sam Eagle, the fiercely patriotic American eagle who is forever trying to set a high moral standard for the Muppets, joins Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, The Great Gonzo and James Jefferson, town crier of Liberty Square, as they gather outside The Hall of Presidents to present historical tales in hysterical fashion as only they can. From the midnight ride of Paul Revere to the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the Muppets appear throughout the day to share with Guests, their own unique take on the founding fathers and the birth of the United States of America.

<<The Dish on Disney Dining>>

>> After being discontinued circa Summer of 2010, a Magic Kingdom signature dish has proved it has multiple lives (probably at least 9). Figaro Fries, long served at Pinocchio’s Village Haus in Fantasyland, has seemingly found a new home at the Plaza Restaurant on Main Street USA as Loaded Plaza Fries. The new incarnation is priced at $8 and is comprised as the same components as the original; plate of fries topped with bacon, melted cheese, lettuce, tomato, and ranch dressing.

<< faline's Fall Fun  >>

INTERCOTee faline recently returned from a trip where they got to experience both annual events (like the Epcot Food & Wine Festival) and once in a lifetime moments (like the Magic Kingdom 45th Anniversary).  Let's relive their trip:

September 27 (Tuesday)

We get up and on the road by 8:30 in the morning. After a stop at a Cracker Barrel for some breakfast, we head to the airport to turn in our rental car. We drag our bags across the street and are on Disney Magical Express before 10:30 am. Before leaving the airport, I receive a text saying our room is not yet ready. Once at Saratoga Springs, we turn our bags over to bell services for storage and board a boat to Disney Springs. Lunch is at Raglan Road where I have the scallops which are quite good. I seem to think my spouse had a burger but could be wrong about that. Before we exit the restaurant, I receive a text saying our room is ready. We will be in the Grandstand section of Saratoga Springs. We reboard the boat and walk to our section of the resort. After placing a call to Bell Services, our luggage is quickly delivered to us. We spend a little while unpacking. We left home almost a week ago and this is the first time we have unpacked. With that done, we locate our bus stop and wait a bit for a bus to Animal Kingdom.

As we arrive at Animal Kingdom, the sky is getting very dark and threatening. For some reason, I decide our first stop should be the Dawa bar so we head there. There are folks there but there are also empty tables. We no sooner get settled at a table with drinks, when the rains come and along with the rains come a fairly large number of people trying to find a refuge from the rains. We have a couple of extra chairs at our table so are able to invite a few nearby people to sit with us. While the storm continues to rage with thunder and lightening, we have a lovely conversation with our table mates who live in Florida though they are originally from other places in the country.

With the rain just about stopped, we head to Expedition:Everest to use our fastpass. We walk the Maharajah Jungle Trek and, by time we exit, it is time to head to the Safari for our fastpass there. There seems to be a shortage of animals on this go through - oh well, sometimes it is just like that. As we exit, I make a fastpass for the last show of the day for Finding Nemo (or so I thought). We walk there and discover that I've actually made a fastpass for The Lion King. Oops!! Cast member asks which I want to attend and I say Finding Nemo. She allows us both through the line (This show is certainly not a "sell out"). By time we exit the show, it is time for our reservation at Tiffin's. We check in and are told our table is not ready so head to the new Nomad Lounge. We find a place to sit outside and order drinks. It is not long before we receive a text indicating our table is waiting for us. This is a pricey, intimate restaurant which is among the quietest I've experienced anywhere in Disney World. We start with a cheese plate which is good. I have the halibut which is excellent and my spouse has the pork tenderloin which also looks excellent and he confirms it is.

Tonight, we are booked for the Disney Vacation Club Animal Kingdom Safari party. After dinner, we locate a site to check in for the party (Dawa Bar) where we are provided with wrist bands and a ticket for a night time safari between 9:30 pm and 10:00 pm as well as a couple of tickets for games in Dinoland which we never use. We head to Tree of Life and watch one of the Awakening shows (We're told there are four versions). Now it is time for our safari so we make our way there. We don't have high hopes for a safari in the dark but, surprisingly, we see quite a number of animals including a cheetah walking around and three lions (two lionesses and one lion) being very active and moving around the rocks of their area of the park. Following that, we head over to Expedition:Everest for a ride in the dark. It is a total walk on. We could have walked around and had several rides in a row had we been so inclined. Heading to Pizzafari (one of the snack locations), my spouse has an ice cream sandwich and several cookies. I select a Mickey Bar. It's already getting late so we head to the bus stop, return to our resort and head directly to bed as it is already around midnight.

September 28 (Wednesday)

Plan is to go to Epcot this morning. Once there, we head to Starbucks for a cup of coffee and a nibble. We're not big Starbucks fans but I can enjoy the pumpkin lattes so we each get one of those. I get an apple fritter (mweh). I think my spouse had a muffin. Just as we go out the door, a couple is vacating a table so we snag that. A short time later, my spouse invites another couple who are looking for a place to perch to share our table. Although not from Florida, they both live here now. The woman, Linda, is originally from Vermont. We have a nice conversation, finish up our coffees ad go on our way.

We have a Soarin' fastpass but we're a bit early so ride Living with the Land. We had a fastpass for this later in the day so I cancel that fastpass. We head to Soarin'. This is our first time on the new version and we are lucky enough to be placed in the center of row 1. I wasn't sure how I would like this version but end up liking it quite a lot.

Today, we are doing a Food and Wine Culinary Demonstration with Chef Adam Mali. He will be demonstrating Lobster and Chips with the lobster being fried (I love fried lobster) and the chips being Japanese Yams. The demonstration is enjoyable and our taste of the product along with some Festival Chardonnay is delicious.

Since this really didn't constitute a meal, we head over to Tutto Gusto with the hope of having some sliders there. I didn't realize it until I later took a better look at the times guide that this location was in use until mid afternoon for one of the culinary experiences. Since we couldn't get in here, we walked over to Spice Road Table and shared an order of Calamari.

We slowly wander through World Showcase and enter the Mexican Pavilion to ride the Grand Fiesta Tour. While on line here, my spouse realizes he left our umbrellas at Spice Road Table. So, after the ride, we exit to a threatening looking sky and retrace our steps to Spice Road where we pick up umbrellas. Our server had tried to follow us to return them to us but didn't know which direction we had gone.

This evening, we will be dining at Victoria and Albert's as an anniversary celebration. We had tried to book this a while ago but were unable to get a reservation but we were wait-listed. A few days earlier, we had gotten a call saying they had availability this evening (Good thing we brought our dressy items with us!!). I had a reservation for Yachtsman Steak House which I canceled as soon as we were confirmed for Victoria & Albert's. So, after retrieving our umbrellas we made our way "home" to get ready for our evening out.

In the morning, the hair dryer in our room had snapped the breaker (It wasn't even in use at the time). While getting ready this afternoon, the low speed on the hairdryer died and it was running at high speed regardless of the setting selected. Plus, it has an electrical smell so it clearly was failing. I was able to finish drying my hair (thankfully) and called Maintenance who replaced the dryer before we returned from our dinner out.

Our reservation was for 7:15 and we headed for the bus stop around 5 pm which was a good thing. More than an hour later, we had made it as far as the boat ramp at the Magic Kingdom to the Grand Floridian. Of course, the way we were dressed garnered lots of attention from other guests with one woman at the boat ramp asking if we wanted to go ahead of her in line but I said we still had ample time to get there. We made it on to the packed boat and were soon at The Grand Floridian. The skies looked quite threatening but we were able to make it indoors before the skies opened (which was a good thing as we did not have umbrellas with us).

We had a little time so stopped in Mizner's and, with the help of our wonderful server, Andrea, was able to secure a table. Mizner's was hopping with a group of convention goers who were going to be headed off to a convention event. Unfortunately, it was impossible to hear the band. (Andrea had been our server both here and at Victoria Falls on our last trip in the spring. She even seemed to remember us.). As the time for our reservation approached, she even ran over to Victoria & Albert's to tell them we were already in the building!!

As we approached, we were directed inside to be welcomed by Israel Perez, maître d’hôtel. We were led to our table, off to the left and just outside the Queen Victoria room doorway. The harpist was in sight of our table. Jack and Sherry were our servers - the same servers we had the last time we dined here and there are still as delightful as they were then. Israel came by our table a couple of time to check on us and chat. There have been some changes since our last visit. There is now only one seating per evening (though seating times are staggered), two tables were removed to allow a new, more central location for the harpist, and there is now the choice of either a 7 course or 10 course meal in either the dining room in which we were located or the Queen Victoria room. We chose the 7 course meal with wine pairing and it's a good thing we did as I don't think I would have been able to eat all 10 courses. I took some risks with my food selections but all was delicious so the risks worked out!! Courses are as follows: Octopus with Heirloom Tomato Gazpacho for me and Duck with Soba Noodles for my spouse; Pumpernickel Crusted King Salmon with Lemongrass Sabayon for me and Popcorn Crusted Diver Scallop for spouse; Loin of Rabbit with Olives and Lemon Gremolata for both of us; Pork Tenderloin with Dashi Scented Rice and Lemon Gremolata for both of us; Selection of Cheese from the Market for both of us (though I was too full to eat all the cheese I was served); Chocolate Mousse with Orange-scented Milk Chocolate Gelato for me and Vanilla Bean Panna Cotta with Wild Strawberries for spouse; Sulawesi Island Coffee for both of us. We were presented with keepsake copies of the menu and I received a rose as well. On the way out, our pictures were taken in front of a huge vase full of roses. Our seating was at 7:15; we walked out the door around 11 pm.

We thought about stopping into Mizner's but the conventioneers were back in force and had brought more friends with them. We headed downstairs and caught a cab back to our resort.

It was a lovely day!!

September 29, 216 (Thursday)

Today we are heading to Hollywood Studios and have made arrangements to meet up with Heather (Beach Club Babe). In no particular order, we ride The Great Movie Ride, Star Tours, Muppet Vision 3D, Toy Story Mania (fast pass) and The Twilight Zone of Terror (also fast pass). Although the park is not really very busy, I was glad we had the Tower of Terror Fast Pass!!

After our visit, we are headed over to Epcot so slowly made our way to the front of the park where we parted ways.

My spouse and I made the walk over to Epcot. We wandered around the World Showcase. Along the way, I got a text from Heather saying Christine was at Disney World and, as it turns out, she was staying in the same section of Saratoga Springs in which we were staying. Christine gave me a call but she had already left Epcot and was going to head to Disney Springs this evening. We were planning to head to Top of the World to see the fireworks, though, in retrospect, it might have been a better choice to head to Disney Springs. Christine was scheduled to leave the next day so we never did manage to get together. Maybe next time!!

While at Epcot, we did get on The Seas with Nemo & Friends and visited the vacation club member lounge in the Imagination Building. I hadn't been up there in years and years so it was nice to visit it again.

We headed "home" for a bit and then took a bus back to Magic Kingdom. From there, we walked over to Bay Lake Tower. The person who checks folks in to go up to Top of the World recognized us from our prior visits and we chatted on the way to the elevator. Once upstairs, we found a table along the window wall. Service started off well. A server we had never seen before came to our table and we ordered drinks and a flatbread. He told us to flag him down if we needed anything else. Well......I tried several times to flag him down but he never looked over to our area at all, ever. My spouse tried several times to flag him down with the same results. We finally flagged down the other server and she said sure, no problem she would put in our drink order for us. We originally intended to expand our food order and add sliders as well. By time the second drink order was put in, we abandoned the idea of having sliders. We also had a conversation with the folks at the next table who were also having issues getting served. About 10-15 minutes after we had placed our drink order with the second server, we were finally able to flag down our original server who blamed the bartender for being slow at getting the drink orders out. However, we saw a nearby table with larger parties turn over three times and no-one at that table seemed to be having any problems getting drinks delivered. Finally, after 20 minutes, our second drink order was delivered. It was now getting close to time for the fireworks. I was more than surprised when our server approached us to ask if we wanted him to reserve our table while we went out to watch the fireworks. We declined. The outside area was very crowded on this evening. We were one row back from the railing but, after about half-way through the fireworks, the couple at the railing decided to leave so I was able to move up and watch the rest of the fireworks with an unobstructed view.

Following the fireworks, we walked back to the Magic Kingdom. There were a lot of people waiting at the Saratoga Springs stop. One bus came, loaded up and left. We did not make it on the bus. We then waited for a full half hour before another bus arrived. We were able to get on that bus but so many people had built up behind us that many did not make it on that bus.

Again, it was quite late when we arrived home but I still had a tubby before bed.

September 30, 2016 (Friday)

We had scheduled this as an Animal Kingdom day but decided we had done what we wanted to do already so decided to go to the Magic Kingdom instead. I canceled the two fastpasses we had at Animal Kingdom as well as our lunch at Yak & Yeti. I was able to book a couple of fastpasses at the Magic Kingdom.

Since it was an extra magic hour morning, I had set our wakeup time to 6 am. Neither one of us wanted to get out of bed and ended up sleeping until 7. Still we were on track to arrive at the park with 30 minutes left of extra magic hours. When we arrived, however, we discovered they had opened the park to the general public already - even though the website still listed 8-9 as extra magic hours and the "official" park hours posted in the park were from 9 am to 7 pm. That was annoying!!

In no particular order, we were able to do Country Bear Jamboree, Hall of Presidents, Liberty Square Riverboat, Haunted Mansion (fastpass), Carousel, Mickey's PhilharMagic, Peter Pan's Flight, It's a Small World, Under the Sea - Journey of the Little Mermaid, and Pirates (fastpass). Lunch was fried shrimp at Columbia Harbor House.

Since the weather seemed to be holding, we decided to return home and visit the pool. No sooner did we arrive at the pool, when we began to hear thunder. Still, my spouse managed to get a couple of dips in. We left just as the rain started and walked "home" in the rain.

We had no dinner reservations this evening so decided to walk over to the Turf Club Bar and Grill. We were seated immediately. I had the prime which was quite good. I believe my spouse had a steak but was not as pleased with it as I was with my prime. It poured again while we dined but the storm was over by time we walked back "home". We stayed in this evening; watched a bit of tv, had some ice cream we bought at the store after dinner, and I took a tubby before bed.

October 1 (Saturday)

We are headed back to the Magic Kingdom this day. Now, I know Disney World's history pretty well. I am well aware the Magic Kingdom opened on October 1, 1971 - a fact I've know since that date. However, when planning a day at the Magic Kingdom on this date, the significance of the date never once connected for me. Go figure!!

Anyway, we arrive at the very busy Magic Kingdom shortly after the 9 am opening time and are quickly inside the park. As we enter, we notice folks passing out some sort of pins from a bag but pay little attention. I stop to grab a guidemap - something I do routinely even though I don't really need one to find my way around the park. The first thing I notice is that the guidemap is not the usual style I would expect and is thicker than usual. I take a closer look and notice "October 1, 2016" and "45 Anniversary". It finally clicks for me. I tell my husband we are here on the 45th anniversary of the park opening and the pins being passed out must have related like to that event. While I go to the restroom, he heads to City Hall and is able to round up a couple of the commemorative pins there. We notice a line into the Emporium that begins at the entrance closest to City Hall. As we walk up Main Street, we see the line extends all the way back to Casey's!! Yikes!!!

We are headed to Peter Pan for our 9:20 fastpass. On the way, we stop for a bit to observe the 45th anniversary ceremony at the Castle Stage. In no particular order, today we are able to visit: Peter Pan's Flight (fastpass); Under the Seas - Journey of The Little Mermaid; Walt Disney Railroad; Sven Dwarfs Mine Train (fastpass); Pinocchio Village Haus for a Caprese Flatbread; Monsters Inc Laugh Floor; and Pirates (fastpass). By this time, we were a bit tired of people - the park was very crowded - so decided to head "home" a little earlier than originally planned.

We head out for our dinner reservation at Citrico's - catching a bus for the Magic Kingdom and changing there for a boat to the Grand Floridian. Mizner's is much quieter this evening and we have a cocktail there before heading in the Citrico's for dinner. Our table is ready and we are seated immediately. We share a shrimp appetizer. For dinner, I select the Pork Porterhouse which is quite good while spouse has the Oak-grilled Beef Filet and is much happier with this steak than the one he had at Saratoga Springs. I have the Tasting of Gelato along with a decaf coffee while spouse has the Warm Chocolate-Banana Torte with a Nutty Irishman coffee.

At Citrico's, we had a window table facing out to the Grand Floridian pool. There was a lot of heavy rain and lightening. There are flood warnings posted. During dinner, we decide we will need to take a cab home. Before getting a cab, I visit Basin White (I need some more bath bombs as I only had one left.) There I discover the clerk lived not far from us (though in a different state) and originally was from a state a little further north we had just visited in the last couple of weeks.

The rain has pretty much stopped by time we arrive "home". I have my tubby and head off to bed.

October 2 (Sunday)

We start our day by heading to the Carriage House. We each have a coffee and share an egg sandwich on a croissant. After breakfast, we head to the pool but there is a sign outside saying the pool is closed. Yet, we see a full contingent of lifeguards in place and a few folks in the pool area. When we question one of the lifeguards, we find they have forgotten to remove the "Pool closed" sign. Okay. We settle in; play in the pool a bit, visit the hot tub, play in the pool a bit and return to our room.

Showered and changed, we are able to board a bus to Epcot within minutes of getting to the bus stop. Although there is a no bag entry, each time we have come into Epcot, we've needed to go through additional screening which backs this area up - going through the bag area would be quicker - actually.

The park is very, very busy. We follow the hordes through the park and make our way to Tutto Gusto where we have martinis and meatball sliders for lunch. We manage to get on a few rides including Spaceship Earth and Mission:Space. We also get on Frozen thanks to a fastpass. The ride is cute. Within 20 minutes of entering the fastpass line, we have ridden the ride and are walking out of the exit. This is certainly not worth the posted 135 minute standby line!!!

We have a 5:30 Beverage Seminar booked. The skies look threatening and though we are quite early for our seminar, we enter the Festival Center. While walking around, we find they are about to begin a seminar on Jack Daniels. My spouse is quite interested in this so settles himself into a bench outside the "official" seminar space so is able to take in all the information even though he is unable to get any of the samples. I wander around and purchase a cookbook and a Figment Apron.

I'm not impressed with the seminar we attended. It was basically an ad for a specific liqueur distributor. We were provided with three samples of different liqueurs along with a history of each. The best of the three was a coffee liqueur. The worst was the last sample they provided - it tasted like cough medicine and, in fact, the speaker indicated that it was often used by Italian moms as a cure for upset tummies and even to rid one of worms. Okay, then - moving on...

There is a passholder special that states you can get a free commemorative glass if you go to Epcot on three occasions during the Food and Wine Festival. Today was our third visit. We went to the Innovations location where they confirmed our three entrances into Epcot and provided each of us with our glasses.

Out to the buses to head "home". This time, we do not get off at the Grandstand but, instead, go all the way around to The Springs. We pick up a turkey club to share for dinner. As we walk home, the rains come again.
