<<A Taste of the 2014 Food and Wine Marketplaces with Hammer>>

Cast: Christine (aka Hammer, INTERCOT Dining Staff) and Cheryl (Christine’s Sister)

We broke up our sampling of the Food and Wine marketplaces over 2 days. We split all food offerings between the 2 of us, but got our own glasses of wine. We did skip a few kiosks where the offerings had not changed from last year, since we had one less person this year to split food offerings, so we did not go to Ireland, Belgium and Poland. We also do not like kimchi, so we skip South Korea. We mostly had champagne drinks for beverages, and they were served in full sized flutes, unlike the wine samples which were 1 to 2 ounce pours. Though we did not have any, beer was served in 6 ounce pours.

We enjoyed almost all of the food offerings this year. Here are the top 3 standout stars! Seared Sea Scallop with spinach-cheddar gratin and crispy bacon was our favorite offering from this year’s festival. Beautiful diver scallop cooked perfectly and worked well with the gratin and bacon. Then again, very few things aren’t improved by the inclusion of bacon! Another favorite was the gratin de crozet de savoie: wheat pasta gratin with mushrooms and Gruyere cheese. . Great flavor and the mushrooms were fresh mushrooms, not canned. Seared Rainbow Trout with Bacon, Frisee and Maple Minus 8 Vinaigrette from Canada was also a favorite. Really liked how the different flavors blend together.

On the other end, we found the Spicy Shrimp roll from Morocco and the Griddled cheese in Greece to be quite greasy this year, though it tasted fine. The lobster alfredo was the biggest disappointment of the festival. We should know by now that the lobster is never good, no matter how they prepare it. It was rubbery and flavorless.

Once again, we enjoyed our yearly trip to the Festival and cannot wait for next year!

Guests at the Magic Kingdom can now shop in a store with wall-to-wall creeps, and hot & cold running chills.  Memento Mori, the new retail location replacing Yankee Trader, officially opened on October 6, 2014. Besides a large array of Haunted Mansion merchandise, the retail location offers Guests the option to make a "changing portrait" of themselves. The holographic image morphs from the Guest's "corruptible mortal state" to a more ghoulish demeanor. The store has undergone a small refurbishment on the interior adding themed details in some of the woodwork, wallpaper, and other fixtures. Cast have advised Guests to look for "spirits to materialize" in a mirror prominently displayed in the store.
