--Frozen Summer Fun at Disney's Hollywood Studios--

INTERCOT's intrepid field reporter, Christine, and our official Field Photographer, Alongfortheride, were among the first to experience the new event at Disney's Hollywood Studios: Frozen Summer Fun. Here's some of the tips Christine tweeted during their visit:

~Frozen themed Cake pops, cookies, cupcakes, marshmallows, apples... Wow!

~Adorable Cast Member costumes at Wandering Oaken's Trading Post!

~They are giving tickets with a return window for for the Frozen Sing-Along Celebration shows, so you're guaranteed a spot and don't have to wait!

~It's snowing on Hollywood Blvd for Anna and Elsa's Royal Welcome, but no Olaf?

~Disney's Hollywood Studios is doing a "flat Stanley" type activity. Take a photo of Olaf having fun and hashtag it #olafsummervacation.

~Downtown Disney Westside is offering a new backstage tour of La Nouba called L'Experience.

~Parking will continue to be difficult at Downtown Disney as more parking space reductions and entrance closures are planned for July.

Each Summer historians, reenactors, and visitors alike will descend upon the small Pennsylvania town to both honor this important point in American history, and hopefully learn about why this was such an important part of our history.  I believe this is a destination all Americans must experience. Fought from July 1 – July 3, 1863, the battle is considered to be the turning point of The Civil War.

Personally, Gettysburg rivals Walt Disney World as my favorite place to visit, obviously for different reasons. While Disney World is an escape, Gettysburg brings history and reality to the visitor.

I have several suggestions that will make your visit more enjoyable.

1.) Try to stay at a hotel at the southern end of town. This will allow you to be walking distance from restaurants, shops, and a part of the battlefield.

2.) Hire a Battlefield Guide. They are very knowledgeable (must pass a test,) and will tailor the tour to your knowledge of the battle.

3.) Inquire if there are any encampments on the weekend (normal May-September.) It is a great opportunity to talk to re-enactors and see an authentic camp and drills.

4.) Even if you happen to see re-enactors outside of an encampment, don’t be afraid to approach them with any questions you may have. Almost all of us are pleased to pass on whatever knowledge we may have of The Civil War.

There are many other destinations close to Gettysburg that can supplement your vacation. Hershey Park, Lancaster, Harpers Ferry, Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C., are all within an hour or two drive away.
