<<Introduction >>

Greetings, All. It looks like Spring has finally sprung. March Madness is underway, many schools are on Spring break, Pre-season baseball is in full swing and many of us are experiencing warmer temperatures and snow-free lawns. All I can say is; it's about time!

Before we get into the Insider topics I wanted to take a moment to fill you in on our sister site WebDisney. WebDisney, which is currently a directory for nearly 800 Disney sites, is now featuring daily news bites. INTERCOT staff members will be posting headlines and links to news stories and discussions. Our webmaster John Y states; "It's just one of the improvements we plan on making to the ICOT family of sites in the coming weeks and months ahead". Stay tuned and don't forget to check out WebDisney when you're done reading the Insider.

Now on with the show ...

<< Disney World Events with DisneyWizard >>

Amongst all of the shareholder meetings, Eisner criticisms, reports on takeovers, and other turmoil actual events have been taking place in Mickey's Kingdom; hotels, expansions, and awards plus great savings on vacations. Take a look!

- State to honor two Disney hotels for conservation efforts - The Boardwalk Resort and Coronado Springs will be awarded the Green Lodgings awards, issued by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. The awards, given to four hotels this year, are given to hotels featuring innovative programs to conserve natural resources, reduce waste, minimize pollution, and reduce costs.
"That's the Disney way." --alittle figment of your imagination "I am very glad to hear that news! That is wonderful for Disney." -TinyTink

- Wide World of Sports Expanding -
Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex will be expanding with construction starting later this month. The sports facility, currently the largest amateur sports complex, plans to have construction finished by the end of August. The 20-acre Hess Sports Fields will include four multi-sport fields for soccer, football, lacrosse and other sports, as well as four new diamonds for baseball and softball. After the expansion the complex will accommodate as many as 10 different sports.
"I can only wonder how this improves the Disney stance in terms of Parks, Animation, and Movies, the main things this company should be focused on in my opinion." --Toad_Passenger "I am not a huge fan of WWS but I am glad it is there." -cactus

- Shades of Green Reopens -
The US military resort on Disney property, Shades of Green, will reopen this month after a two-year expansion. The new expansion, opening in phases, features 299 extra rooms, a fitness center, pools, tennis courts and a new lobby. New restaurants and Walt Disney World's first parking structure have also been built. Architects designed the new area to blend with the existing resort, creating a Floridian lodge motif.
"Can't wait to see the new additions." --disneyluvr "I love that Disney appreciates what we, as military members do, and reward us with this resort." -DisneyHog

- Save On Your Next WDW Vacation -
Disney has released resort specials for Florida Residents, Annual Passholders and Room-only discounts (room-only discounts apply for vacations between 4/18 - 7/4 2004). Savings apply to all three levels of resorts, including Value, Moderate, and Deluxe. For more information visit the following post, or go to www.yourmagicaljourneys.com. Be sure to mention INTERCOT to receive the discounts.

"Thank you Karen at Magical Journeys for taking care of this for me and saving even more than the Disney Visa." --DisenyCrazyET "I also want to thank Karen at Magical Journeys for her astute heads up and concern for her clients when it comes to obtaining the best rates possible." --creig "It doesn't get any better than that." -rcaid

". . .none of us are alone. . ."
- Jodie Foster in Contact

Don't worry, we're not going to be talking about UFO's today, but we are going to vary from the usual "What is. . .?" theme. For this month's article, I drew inspiration from DisneyRN's "I wonder how close some of us really are" thread. With over 12,000 members, we're a small city in cyberspace yet many of us have never met....or have we?

We have members from many areas of the world. We have members from all over the United States and Canada. We also have members who live outside of North America, including Australia, Belgium, Netherlands, Sweden and the United Kingdom. In fact there are a handful of INTERCOTees that live in SE Wisconsin like I do.

I've probably met nearly 50 INTERCOTees at various meets over the last few years but I've never physically met some of my INTERCOT neighbors. . .or have I? Maybe we've been in the local Disney Store at the same time. Or maybe we've walked past each other at the State Fair or at the local mall.

When you see a Disney vanity plate on someone's car do you wonder if they're an INTERCOTer? I know I often do. Do you wonder if that guy wearing that manly shirt with little mice on it is an INTERCOTee? He just might be.

Maybe we need to have a worldwide "Wear INTERCOT Apparel Day" so we can find each other.

If anyone is looking for me on the road. . .I'll be the guy in the silver Avalon with Disney vanity plates and a Mickey sun shade. How hard could that be. . .right?

We kicked off the month of February with the Super Bowl and Water Cooler talk ranged from the game to favorite halftime shows and commercials. A Big Kid even gave us a different perspective on the game -- one from a law enforcement officer's experience -- thanks Mike! To the dismay of most of us, looks like we're in for six more weeks of winter since the groundhog saw his shadow the day after the game.

February also means Valentine's Day, and we had lots of romance talk in the Cooler. Hope2survive wanted to know how we all met our significant other (lots of interesting stories there). Jamie's Valentine's Party was a huge hit with her special Aphrodite's Love Potion as the special of the day. Frankie even entertained us with some funny Valentine jokes. Beach Club Babe polled our members on where did you spend your honeymoon? Not surprisingly, Walt Disney World was among the most popular locations.

There's a new club in the Cooler: the Jamieketeer Club! We had some very creative entries into the Jamieketeer Song Book started by Dr_Nigel_C including many Disney hits with new words! I'm a member, are you? MissT wondered what our dream job would be. Lots of interesting responses: chef, Broadway performer, and of course many answers of "working in WDW", from being an Imagineer to CEO to serving popcorn on Main Street USA. Going2disney wondered what some of our phobias are. For INTERCOTees, they ranged from spiders, airplane travel, heights, to clowns and getting sick. Maybe we should get a big leather couch for the Cooler? Another popular topic was Melanears' "What is your Favorite State?" The rules were you couldn't vote Florida or your own home state. It appears that INTERCOTees prefer California, Hawaii, and Virginia.

Finally, we had some special occasions to celebrate last month. SgtTigger was promoted to Lieutenant in his Sheriffs Department. Way to go Bret -- we're proud of you! Congratulations to disneynarula on her latest addition -- Oscar James was born on February 19th! Congratulations also go out to darthmacho who just purchased his first home!

February Birthday wishes went out to: Jeff, Dizneyana, mrsmom, SteelyGirl, frogmn78, Vacation Dad, scooterca42, kjblovesdisney, AmyKane, testtrackrocks, Duane, disneygirlnowmom, TooGoofy (Meg), Sportster, AvaNellMouse, LottaLubes, PanTink, RyGuyLax, crazy4disneyworld, Mouse Mortimer, Altair, VillainLover Lisa, JennyAnne, Jeremy Wilcox, Patti, and wdw_88. I hope you all had a great day!

Posting milestone celebrations in February were held for Melanears - 13,000 posts, pjbs35a - 9,000, MickeysGirl - 8,000, Jeff - 6,000, Lizzy -5,000, bjbunny - 4,000, SteveL - 2,000, Liz - Senior Cast Member. Newest members of the Four-Digit Club (1,000 posts) include: Auntie, Claytonia, GrandFlo, alittle figment of your imagination, and Freetime. Great job everybody!

Well, now that the dreaded winter months are over, we can all hope for some sign of Spring. See you next month!

<< Conclusion >>

Thanks to all of our contributors and readers. We'll see in a few weeks with more topics and tidbits. In the meantime, Happy INTERCOTing.
