<< Introduction >>

Happy New Year, Everybody.

It appears like many of us are experiencing mighty cold temperatures. It certainly makes me wish I was back in Florida relaxing under a palm tree. Reality has a way of snapping us back. Nonetheless we can still dream about and plan future trips . . . right?

Please note Bits and Bytes is on a brief hiatus and will return next month.

Put another log on the fire and let's begin. . .

<< Walt Disney World Events with Casey >>

With the New Year come and gone, Walt Disney World experienced the highest attendance it has seen it its history.  However, now the slow season is in effect for January and only a couple of events are taking place.

-Motion sickness bags now available on Mission: Space-
Disney has now conveniently installed motion sickness bags on Mission: Space to ease guests' fears on the high-tech thrill ride.  Contrary to popular belief, the bags were installed out of popular demand, not because of the rumored "high levels of vomiting."  Many INTERCOTees had a lot to say on the subject.
"I think people's anxiety and the media hype of how people are getting sick outpaced reality." -TiggerRPh "Okay, so bags might not be a bad idea, but it wasn't that bad! For anyone reading this who has not been on Mission: Space yet, don't worry!" -SteveP "All the hype about getting sick on this ride almost made me not do it, but I did ride it and didn't feel sick at all." -rt207 "I think the barf bags are a GREAT idea...this way [the sick guests] can discreetly toss the bag out and not suffer the embarrassment." -Jeremy Wilcox

-Disney's Play 4 Days is back!-
Florida residents can once again take advantage of this great deal offered by Disney.  This comes as a great discount to residents as it offers four full days of unlimited park hopping all for only $109 per person, plus tax.  While some restrictions apply, this is a great way for Walt Disney World locals to visit more often.  Just remember this is for Florida residents, and you must show valid identification before entering the parks.  Visit the link below for all the details:

-Giant postcard sent to NASA-
A giant postcard was up recently for Epcot guests to sign as congratulations for NASA's success on Mars.  Guests lined up to ride the attraction and to sign the postcard, respectively.  Of course, Mickey Mouse and Goofy were on hand to give their own autographs.  For a photo of the postcard, visit INTERCOT's homepage.

<< Off Topic with Dizneyana >>

Well, as 2003 drew to a close, (yeah, it feels like we were just saying that about 2002 to me too!!) our thoughts turned to the holidays, spending time with our families, and for some of us, a trip to WDW for the INTERCOT meet.  (Those presents can wait to be wrapped...  or bought in my case...)  But even though folks were busy, there were still things going on here at INTERCOT.  Let's take a peek...

I guess that roses was having a tough time sleeping one night and wanted to know what other folks did when they couldn't sleep.. (and since she got some immediate replies, I guess she wasn't the only one!!)  Can you believe that heading for INTERCOT was the favorite choice??  That has to say something!!  ChesireLisa was curious about the feelings of our members regarding flu shots.  There were a lot of differing opinions, and information to think about.  In December we welcomed Emily (SteelyGirl) back to the moderating staff after she had taken a hiatus for awhile.  Welcome back, Em!!

LittleSpirit02 posted a poll asking what era we would have liked to have lived in.  The poll resulted in a tie between 1900-1910 or earlier and the 1950's.

Central California experienced a fairly large earthquake in December that resulted in the death of a few people.  Hope that everyone gets their lives put back together there soon.

The Celebrate INTERCOT'S 5th Anniversary meet at WDW happened in early December and there was a great turnout of members.  I know that I enjoyed finally putting faces with names, and everyone had a great time.  At one of the last meets, there was an Official INTERCOT Males Over 50 Best Legs Contest.  I was supposed to be a judge at this contest but didn't make the meet, (along with some of the other judges) so the voting was turned over to you, the INTERCOT community as a whole, and the winner was...   Our very own Frankie!!  (pjbs35a)  Congrats Frankie!!

The INTERCOT Football Pool was in full swing again this year, and our season winner was Jeff!!  Congratulations Jeff!!  Way to go!!  Pizza's on you!!  ;)

I'd like to thank Jane (ChipDale) and Jamie (MickeysGirl) for taking care of organizing and throwing all the INTERCOT Birthday parties this year.  You two did a great job!!

Here's who celebrated another year in December...  usafmom, MrToad4Ever, SpecJoeMagic, Walter E. Disney, Sorcerer_Cippel33, Disney24Seven, We LOVE Disney, CrknJac, disneyfan7777, poohbear813, Melanears, Little Round Bale, Chip Carlton, rt207, Munch, DisneyDudet, PoohGirls2, tad_tad, mktiggerman, WDW crazy, BAMABOY, Nuts4Disney, HollyB, Diznee4Me, AtlBrav, cheshirecollector, Doc Marc, GA girl, Howdy Partner, DisneyFreak1228, ParkHopper, and Disney-Nut.  Happy Birthday to all of you!!

Even with all the shopping for presents, wrapping, vacation planning, packing, and traveling, there was still time for posting at INTERCOT.  Posting kudos go out to PolyGirl40 - 22K, Dizneyana - 20K, Disney-4-Me - 5K, Jeff - 5K, bjbunny - 3K, Piglet822 - 3K, Edzter86 - 3K, michael and mommy love disney - 2K, weswerx - 2K, Main Street Jim - 1K, hope2survive - 1K, CaptSmee - 1K, MousePassion - 1K, DisneyDog - 1K, mommyof2 - Senior Cast Member, and Grumpy's Daughter - Senior Cast Member.

That about does it for me...  I need to go shovel some snow, so I'll see you all back here again next month with our first 2004 installment of Off Topic.  Happy New Year!!    I now return you to the real topic...

<< Conclusion >>

That wraps things up for this edition. We'll be returning in a few weeks with more topics, tidbits and tips. In the meantime; stay warm and happy INTERCOTing!
