Happy Canada Day! What are some Canada Day traditions? Is there anything special one does on Canada Day or does it vary by family?

I would have to say that it varies by family. In the area that I live you usually find families either getting together for a BBQ, hanging out at the park, and some people even gather at the lake for a huge party put on by the municipalities and cities of the area. At the end of the evening you always hear tons of fire works going off. Mind you, I have been hearing fireworks since Friday night! I would imagine it would be similar to the 4th of July events. Are they are 4th of July traditions?

Happy Canada Day!!!
I have decorated my porch with Canada flags, I gave the kids loot bags this morning that had the Canadian Flag on them - inside were Canada Day tattoos, necklace, flag to wave, beach ball, balloons, etc.
Tonight we had a BBQ at my inlaws and headed home fairly early as the boys were NEEDING to be in bed around 8.
We live close to where our cities fireworks were being set off (at a local community centre/hockey arena) so I was able to walk to the festivities while DH stayed home and parented! The fireworks were spectacular, but not Disney....I found myself singing "WISHES' in my head! Starlight, starbright......!!!
Our town has been celebrating since Thursday or Friday, there has been a ribfest on all weekend, carnival rides and a ton of other activities as our small little town celebrates our 150th birthday this year as well!
A lot of the surrounding towns celebrate near the water and hold waterfront festivals, my areas waterfront is mostly blocked by a cement plant and a nuclear power plant - we don't want to see fireworks coming from there!

Happy Canada Day!
It has finally stopped raining and we had a wonderful day to celebrate Canada's birthday today!
We saw our local fireworks, but as Flower mentions .... it certainly is NOT Disney. When you have seen the best the rest just don't compare. I guess we could of headed downtown to Parliament Hill, but there are just way too many people down there. And those fireworks still are not Disney's either. Anyways we had a great day and spent it with good friends soaking up some sunshine by the pool. Made my first "Glowtinis'' today. YUM YUM
