There were several reasons to close the ride. Although there was a death, there were other compeling reasons.

    1) The ride was low-capacity.
    2) It was high maintenance for the capacity.
    3) People were dropping/throwing things from it.
    4) There was a CM death associated.
    5) Overall potential liability was high.

The sad part is that Disney's Skyway was the first of its type IN THE WORLD to make a 90º turn (it was after you went over the Tomorrowland Speedway when coming from Tmomrrowland, just opposite if from Fantasyland). Now that it's gone, we don't hold that record anymore. But, it has been 3 years since the closure, and it is slowly drifting from a "Closed Attraction" to a "Magical Memory".

Though I loved this ride, I was actually surprised they could get CMs to work loading it - it was so obviously a very hard and physically demanding position.

I learned about the accidental death associated with the Skyway on our local news. I later read about it in our local paper. I don't think it was a hidden fact I just think the media dwelled on it for weeks like they do some subjects. I was sad to see it go but I understood their reasons for closing it.
