Don't miss the Needles Highway in Custer State Park, also try to do the top section of the Joyner trail at Devil's Tower at least. If you get to Mount Rushmore early they don't charge for parking. The memorial is free, but you pay for parking. Arriving early will also miss the crowds. If time becomes a problem, you can see Crazy Horse from the road and save time and money.

You have a wonderful jam packed trip coming up. Are you going to go to the Stave Church in Rapid City? There is a beautiful view of the valley there. I really loved the history of Deadwood. It was one of my favorite places during our trip out west. One thing I will recommend is...plan to drink plenty of water. We drank probably 64 ounces or more daily! That time of year is hot but the air is dry so you don't realize you are getting dehydrated until you feel it.

I was planning on hitting Mt Rushmore early for good lighting for pictures, but saving money is a great bonus!

Is the Stave Church in Rapid City the same as the Chapel in the Hills church? I love taking pictures of old churches, so I don't want to miss one.
Thanks for the tip on the water. I drink a lot of water here at home, but I tend to forget those things while on vacation.

Have fun! We loved Custer State Park and especially Blue Bell Lodge. Wall Drug was a last minute addition that we're so glad we did. I wonder if their coffee is still 5 cents.

I will try to remember to look. I don't drink coffee though, so I don't make any promises.
