Disney and Universal together?
We will be returning to WDW in summer of 2019. My DH wants to visit Universal on the same trip. Basically, we would have a travel day, 4 days at Disney, 3 days at Universal and a travel day home. We visit WDW world almost every year but our DS (15yo) has never been to Universal. Thoughts on our trip? Has anyone combined both places? TIA!

We did both a couple of times. We spent most of our time at Disney but did a couple/few days at Universal. On one occasion, we did a day trip over to Universal from Disney.

Disney and Universal together?
We did a similar thing as faline. Good trip (Harry Potter is fantastic), but our preference is definitely Disney. Universal is much smaller in extent.

We've done a combined trip twice. On time we stayed off-site, and the next just drove to Universal from Disney. We've found 2 Universal days to be enough, but we've never tried the waterpark, so that could add some extra time.
The drive is fairly easy (just don't leave in the height of rush hour, but a good GPS will get you around the worst of the traffic).

We have done combined trips several times. A few times we have just taken one day out of our Disney trip to spend at Universal. Other times we did a few nights in Universal, followed by our Disney stay. One one trip we did 5 nights in Disney followed by 2 nights in Universal. I think we like it best when we can do 2-3 nights in Universal first followed by 5-7 nights in Disney. We can't always take such a long trip, so most often we have to make it work with 2 nights in Universal and 5 in Disney. We have also done Universal only trips with a quick visit to Disney for dinner one night.

Yes, it's doable and fun if you plan ahead. My teen-aged boys loved it when we combined both places in one vacation. I did too!

You'll have a great time with this plan, but I'd suggest adding in a day at Sea World. We added a Sea World day this past trip and LOVED IT !! I had not been there since the 70's and boy has it changed. The rollercoasters were incredible ..... if it were me I'd do 4 WDW / 2 Universal / 1 Sea World, all staying on Disney Property ....
