It's a Small World to end?
This is TOTAL rumor. I don't even know where it came from.
A friend of mine who is planning a WDW trip for September said she saw on a message board that WDW was going to be closing IASW and replacing it with a Tangled-themed ride.
Now, I don't believe this. At all. But is there any talk of closing Small World?

I've not heard this rumor. I have to think the chances of them closing Small World has to be extremely small. It's a classic and still quite popular.

If it's the same source that I saw then it's not a very reliable one. I don't see it going anywhere anytime soon. At least, I hope not...

Impossible! That would be like Disney killing off Mickey. It is too close to the core of the theme parks.

Its linked to child labor laws, and they'll remove it to be more correct.
Replaced with the HR speeches we get at work.

......if it ever came to pass ......eliminating this attraction would be like a historical landmark site desecration. And I say that for many reasons.
.....the sentimental and iconic value of the ride is, of course, at the forefront. But I think there would be a HUGE outcry from the parental camp (ie: adults with young children). This is a ride that is relatively high volume ....getting a lot of people thru the gate in a reasonably short time. However, the ride also allows parents to get their kids on an attraction while perhaps awaiting a FastPass time-slot on another, to rest (themselves and the young ones) during the somewhat calming ride, and to get out of the sun for a prolonged period of time. All the above should be in the thoughts of Disney brass if they ever considered such a radically offensive idea. With soaring WDW prices, I don't think Disney would need another reason to tick-off their visitors.
......of course, even at +50 years of age, I cherish the opportunity to ride this attraction and be immediately transported back to my childhood days. So, I would protest the prospects of its elimination ....for purely selfish reasons

Finally, after many months, there's actually a reason for me to post a comment.
That is the most asinine rumor I've ever read. Some good comments, but the most important reason why It's a Small World should never be closed hasn't been mentioned.
This attraction was developed by Walt Disney himself for the 1964-65 New York World's Fair. It's a link to the man to whom we all owe so much thanks for giving us so many magical memories.
Closing the attraction would be like claiming that Walt didn't matter anymore.

I'm sure its just a crazy rumor. On the other hand, Walt has been dead for 50 years, they don't care about Walt anymore.

While I agree that the rumor is silly (and I started the thread for that reason), I don't think that everything that Walt developed should be kept open. For example, I wouldn't shed a single tear if they closed the Tiki Room or the Country Bears. I think those are awful attractions and huge wastes of space. I wouldn't mind if they actually did what Walt originally wanted to do with the Tiki Room, and turned it into a restaurant where the birds were part of a dinner show. I think that would be cool. But otherwise, do something better.

Country Bears was not opened or even worked on by Walt. It did not open until Oct 1971, almost 5 years after Walt died. Everything I have ever found on the subject state that the last attractions that Walt oversaw development of were the Disneyland version of POTC and Haunted Mansion which opened in 1967 and 1969 respectively. When Walt died POTC was close to finished, but it sounds like HM was still in the development stages.

And that's why there are different types of rides for the different likes and dislikes... We love the Tiki Room and go at least once a trip.
There's a great big beautiful tomorrow!
