STINKY (I mean, REALLY stinky) Room
So, I'm not one to complain but Oh-My-Gosh. When we were in WDW back in early January, we did some resort hopping. The first few days we were at AKL and loved it. We had a wonderful room. Over the weekend though, we moved to AS Sports in a preferred room right beside the main pool (Surfs Up section) and wow...that room STUNK SO BAD!! Lol! And still to this day, I can't figure out what the smell was. Maybe it had been recently fumigated?? We didn't bother complaining, partly because I wasn't feeling well from a cold (so I didn't have the energy to "raise a stink"!) and partly because we weren't in our room much. But wow, when we would come back to our room in the evening, it was like a wall of stink hit us. It was almost a chemical smell. When we left that hotel and headed over to a hotel at Universal Studios, we could still smell whatever the stench was on our clothes. Strange, huh?! Anyone else ever have that problem?? I suppose we could have complained.
I only bring it up after listening to the most recent podcast and they were discussing how Mousekeeping has gone downhill lately and that even the executives have noticed. I'm not totally sure if the stench could be blamed on Mousekeeping, but they most certainly would have smelled it themselves when they came in to clean our room every day. Wouldn't they have said something to their bosses? I dunno. It was downright awful.

We cruised on the Fantasy in November. Being a family of 6, we had 2 adjoining cabins. The boys' cabin smelled fine. The cabin that my girls & I shared smelled like sewage. Even our cabin steward mentioned it, and brought his boss into the cabin to smell it. The bathroom was bleached, the carpets cleaned, and everything that could be taken apart in our cabin was checked. They could not find the source of the smell. On our 3rd day the carpet in our room was completely replaced, and that took care of the smell. (The night that the carpet was replaced, my older daughter got sick, and I swear, the smell of her "sickness" was the same smell that was in our carpet.) Disney was very compensating about the problem. I never complained, really. They were on top of things before I could say anything. But they sent desserts and strawberries to our room, champagne to my parents' room & arcade cards to my boys' room. They even gave us some spa credit. I felt like they went above & beyond to take care of the problem for us!

The one time we stayed at Coronado Springs, our room stunk BADLY. It was a combo of mildew and bleach smell (presumably to cover up the mildew smell). The resort was 100% booked due to a conference so we were out of luck. And, our AC was super inefficient. Left a bad taste in my mouth for that resort. Thankfully, we were not in the room much at all and it was only 3 nights. It was gross though.

We had two stinky rooms at akl before we settled on the third. We also were delivered a rollaway and extra blankets that smelled as if a rodent had crawled into them and died. They refunded us one night.

You are nicer than I would have been!
We had a problem with A/C at POFQ, and after some pushing a great guy from engineering came out and removed the decorative A/C cover. It was LOADED in dust and grime and mold. He commented that some of the theming looks lovely, but cleaning is a pain.
I wonder if the rooms need a deep clean on a more regular basis?

We had a problem with the A/C in our room at POFQ this past fall. When I went to the front desk they did not hesitate to move us to another room. They even sent some up to help us. Was all taken care of in 20 minutes. I was very pleased with how they handled it. When we stayed at All Star Music in 2003 we came back to the room one night and it smelled like cigeratte smoke. I complained as my daughter has asthma. The next morning when we left they sent in the deep clean people. We came back to a nice clean smelling room and they had moved the people in the ajoining room who were smokers. This was before no smoking in the resort rooms

Jen, reminds me of the episode of Seinfeld where the parking attendant had B.O. and it got on Jerry's car. Then the B.O. clung to him.... Like it was alive.

I've never experienced this, thankfully. I did have my room moved at the BC one year bc we came as a couple and there were two boys playing kickball in the hallway and constantly hitting our door with a ball. We got moved to a DVC room that was not upgraded and it was downright drabby. I was very upset the entire weekend that we had to downgrade our room instead of them telling the family their children shouldn't be doing this in the hallway of a deluxe resort.

I do not think I could take a stinky room. I'd have to move. Although, I've never had a room problem Disney has always been very accommodating to us on so many occasions. Disney is still doing it right .... I hope they keep it up !!!

Bodies hidden in the walls? There are villains around, you know! Seriously, I think if you would have complained they would have moved you - if the hotel was full it might have even got you an upgrade to another hotel. I couldn't live with that. We just got back from Cozumel where everything smelled mildewy, but I"m assuming that is a hazard of staying by the sea. But the stuff I took STILL smells even after being washed!

The only time we've ever had a stinky experience was when my daughter and I stayed at the Pop Century for a quick Mother/Daughter getaway thing. OMG. From the second we arrived, we smelled a very sharp, acrid smell every time we walked to our room. I knew that, somewhere, in the deep recesses of my scent memory, I was familiar with it, but I couldn't place. It persisted, though...it was present the whole time we were there. We visited in July (a first for us and we were not used to the intense heat and humidity), and my daughter used to comment that the smell made her feel sick after a day out in the parks. Anyway, while there, I never did place it. But...when I got home and had some landscaping done at my house, I realized that the smell was that of a "Hollytone" plant fertilizer. They must have just fertilized the very peaked looking shrubs in the common areas outside our room. Man...it was horrible. Put a damper on our whole stay.
Nice work, pal.

Hmmmm never had this issue at any of the All Stars. Whenever we have an issue we always bring it up and it's usually fixed. Sorry you had that experience!

Never had a problem with a stinky room, but have been around a few groups of people at Disney World not used to the sulfur smell of the water that is used for sprinkler systems in Florida. I must confess to chuckling a bit as I heard them complain about the smell of rotten eggs!
