I have been looking at some Disney Cruise Vlogs and I am noticing this new trend of Decorating doors and Fish Gifts? Can someone please tell me what this is and is it a must do?
It's called Fish Extenders (the gifts). If you Google it you can find message boards where you can link up with other people on your cruise to exchange gifts with. Pinterest has lots of Fish Extender ideas, too. A lot of people decorate their doors with special magnets, too. Etsy sellers have some great ones, and I've found some cute things in eBay as well. I have decorated doors, but I've never done the Fish Extenders because I rarely have enough room in luggage to store extra things. We're a family of 6, so all my luggage space is filled with clothes for our family!
It's not just the Disney Cruises where passengers do the door decorations; they are popular on the other cruise lines too. Many cruisers also use dry erase boards to post messages about where they are or what they are doing, but I wouldn't advocate that, for security's sake.
I had never heard of the Fish Extenders before.

We make our own custom magnets for our stateroom doors. Have since the start. Never done the fish thing. Too busy to get that involved with packing extra gifts for folks.
We found the magnetic paper that you can print on and with some PC experience you can make lots of neat things to stick to the metal doors that don't damage the ship.

Been There; Done That; Got The Shirt; AND GOING BACK!
My wife and daughter have done the Fish Extender thing on our last 3 DCL cruises.
Usually one suitcase is dedicated to FE gifts.
For our 14 day WBPC cruise last year it was 1 large suitcase.
35+ trips to WDW since 1985...and it never gets old.
