Looks Like Cruise is Out (For Now)
We've been tossing around the idea of taking a cruise for our next Disney vacation. I've had some great advice here on this forum, and I've watched plenty of videos. My wife and DD "seemed" to be on board with the possibility of a 7-Day Western Caribbean Cruise for next year's vacation.
But today, the kids were off school and I was home, working on proposals, and we spent some time watching old vacation videos. I told my daughter, "I don't know if I can land in Orlando and NOT go to Walt Disney World. That would be tough."
That's when she said, "Dad, mom and I have been playing along, but we don't want to go on a cruise. We want to go back to Disney." So...for now...we will be planning a return to WDW in 2017.
Thanks to all for your wonderful advice. Unfortunately, only my interest was piqued!

I'm sorry to hear that! I can say that I felt the same way ... I didn't think I could be so close to Disney and NOT go, but the cruise was awesome.
Disney is pretty awesome too ... and the time will be right for a cruise another time.

Why not do both...combine a cruise and a Disney World visit. We did that 2 years ago and it was great. We stopped at Disney World first (stayed at Port Orleans FQ for 2 nights) - then did a 3 night cruise on the Disney Dream - then went back to the FQ for 2 more nights after the cruise. It was the best of both experiences. Friends of ours did the same thing, but did a 4 night cruise first and then did 4 nights at Disney World following the cruise. They also enjoyed both experiences.

I was going to suggest that. We did a 3 night Dream cruise followed by 4 nights at the Wilderness Lodge and 4 days at the parks. Best of both worlds. And, we all preferred the cruise to our park time.
I would always suggest a shorter cruise for first time cruisers anyway. If anyone isn't liking being on a ship, it's better if it isn't a whole week when you find that out.
Why not look at the 3 or 4 night Dream cruises?

Yeah, I hear that a lot... I fought a cruise for a few years before I went and then couldn't get enough. Took a break from cruising in like 2001 and then realized that we hadn't gone again in a while. Still don't think there is a better vacation value wise or relaxation wise.
Right now, my little one is 7 and is a Castaway Club Gold member already... He's done a few cruise lines as well, not just Disney.

Another vote for the Land and Cruise here for you! Though we have done two cruises since our last WDW visit. I do admit as we drove from St. Pete's to Port and passed all the WDW signs we wanted to turn left instead of turning right.
For us right now we are Disney cruisers, couldn't imagine fighting the crowds at WDW that we have seen on our last two visits. One day you and your family will try a cruise and I am sure you will all enjoy it as much as your visits to WDW.

Land-and-Sea probably not going to fly. DW & DD are huge fans of longer stays on property -- 10-, 11-night stays or more. They like to take their time and really absorb being down there. Visiting each park only one time during trip would break their hearts. Looks like cruise will have to wait until I can afford both extended WDW trip AND cruise in same year. That may be a while...a long while!!!

I will suggest a WDW trip AFTER the cruise. Coming down to reality after a cruise is quite a shocker, so a few days to ease back in is suggested. We use our DVC before/after the cruise to help the transition.
I'm not sure if other lines offer shorter cruises out of Port Canaveral... The cost of a Disney Cruise is quite the pill to swallow, many question the value compared to the other lines (who often are close to 1/2 the price). DCL does do cruising right, better than the other lines and customer service is head and shoulders above what WDW provides. But to get your sea legs, might be worth checking the other lines, but know that DCL will really not compare. If we didn't do DCL, we would still be cruising on another line, that's for sure. We're running out of destinations which makes DCL a better choice IMHO. Better island and more "family" stuff to do aboard

We did sea and land and I was so thankful to be back in the parks after the cruise. I was pretty well disappointed with the entire Disney cruising experience so having Disney parks to fall back on had me almost in tears of joy. I wanted to kiss the ground. If you aren't sure if you will like the cruise, definitely book something at Disney to cushion the fall. I'll do one more cruise for my daughters bc they loved the clubs but the boat isn't exciting and not enough to peak my interest for 3-4 days. It's a 6 hour adventure in my book! After that I'm bored.
