For us, DD was around 5-6 before she'd sit down and watch a whole movie. Matter of fact, her first movie in the theater was "The Princess & The Frog". She loved it! Now my DS, he's 4, about to turn 5, and while he'll sit still and watch movies in the car (because he is restrained!), he's not great about doing so at home or in the theater just yet.

Christi - JB is 28 months & his attention span varies but for the animated movies it seems that 40 minutes is his current limit. However, his half brother loves movies and is just over 3 (funny but he has liked them for a while now). So I would agree t hat it differs bw children but o would say definitely no younger than 3 or 4 to sit through an entire movie.
