security and K9
Not sure if this is the right forum but I wanted to mention one other thing I noticed when I was in the parks last week.
I saw many more security guards throughout the parks and even saw a K9 unit on more than one occasion. I saw K9 in MK twice, once in Epcot and on the day we were leaving at the Beach Club. The K9 was with his/her partner and walking through the parks. At the resort they were at the front door. I assume this was due to the elevated terror risk but I wondered if there was something more to it. Does anyone know?

I've seen folks patrolling with dogs for the last several years now - both in the resorts and in the parks so do not believe this is anything new.

Oh thanks for the response I never noticed them maybe I was so excited about being in the parks and in Disney I just never noticed. I tend to get MICKEY tunnel vision when I am there!

We saw them quite a bit in May also. Seems to be a sign of the world we're living in now.

Don't really know if it's a fact or not, but on trip to AK with my sister she was told by the K9 handler that all K9 dogs in Orlando go through a training phase at WDW. Could be true. Could be a pat answer to keep tourists from panic. Although the whole conversation with the handler just started when my sister remarked that the dog was so beautiful.

I've never seen them at the resorts but I have seen them in the parks - they were usually at the entrances when I've spotted them. I think that not only is it a sign of how our society needs increased security everywhere, but it's also that more police departments are able to obtain a dog.
On a side note, on the last several trips, I have noticed the areas marked as doggie potties that I had not seen before - great idea for service dogs!

Saw them on the 4th of July in the MK. I thought is was because of the crowd size. I'm glad they are around.. ya never know when someone might try something.
Been there, done that and going back!!! See ya real soon !!!

Personally, I'm happy to know they are around and working in the parks. Any location with large crowds of people is a potential target for nut-cases and/or terrorists (i.e. downtown Boston during the Marathon). We don't like to think about such things, so I'm glad somebody else is paying attention to the potential threat. From what I know, there's a lot of unseen security activity always going on in WDW.
