Prudential Center - Newark NJ

We may be going to see a show at the Prudential Center in Newark NJ next Wednesday. We will be traveling from Philly. Not sure what to expect traffic wise so we plan to leave at 4pm for an 8pm show. If we get there early, are there bars or restaurants near the arena? Is the area safe to walk around?

On nights when the center is open there is massive police presence in the area (normally 4-6 blocks). The Prudential Center is located on the outskirts of the Spanish district which has great food and is in walking distance (10 minutes) or you could grab a cab. If you're leery to walk in the area, the Brick City Pub is directly across the street from the box office and a few other Pub types are right there on Edison Pl too.

Thanks Lynn. We are now planning to drive to Metropark and take the trian from there. Cost should be about the same as parking at the arena.

Any thoughts on driving from Philly to Metropark? We can take either PA/NJ Turnpike and GS Parkway or 95 and US-1. Is traffic better on either?
