Just booked GF but now I'm having second thoughts...
We booked GF with a friends & family discount of 40% off for mid December. Now I'm reading about all the construction going on around there and I realize why they're offering the GF on the friends and family discount! I'm not sure now, should we stay there? I really wanted the CR but it's not on the discount at this time.

DH and I are staying at the GF this December 8-13th. The only construction at that time will be the DVC (which will not affect us at all), The Spa (that has been closed for awhile now; GF guests can use SSR spa instead), and Gasparillas will be closed (which we never eat at anyway; similar offerings will be provided at other locations onsite). I hope this eases your mind a little.

CR=Contemporary Resort...stayed there last time and LOVED it! My kind of hotel! Kinda funny to me that we're going from the most modernly themed hotel to the most vintage themed hotel!
Belle...have you heard of the construction obstructing views at all? What about the courtyard pool...will it be back open by then? We go Dec. 11th...

For me, it wouldn't be the construction that drives me away from the GF, but instead the fact that the Monorails (MK loops and EPCOT loop) stop running one hour after their respective park closes. Since you cannot walk to the GF (or the Poly) you are forced to ride a bus (or a boat) from the MK to GF if you stay late at the MK. Same goes for EPCOT. At least you can walk home to the CR from MK.

Well, I can't speak for how extensive or intrusive the construction is, but I'm betting the 40% will be worth it. Unless your other choices will be around the same price after the 40%, I'd stick with your decision. Good luck!

DH and I also stayed at the GF in May and we only noticed the DVC construction when we walked over to the Beach Pool and Fitness Center. We didn't 'hear' any construction noise either. So no, it didn't appear to be obstructing room views. What kind of room did you book?
The Courtyard pool will reopen at the end of November.
Looks like our stays will overlap. I am so excited to see the GF all done-up for Christmas. It's a grand and magical hotel any day of the week but it will be even better at Christmas!
Let me know if you have any more questions!

We'll booked a Outer Building garden view. We had to book the cheapest because we need TWO rooms!
-
the construction ends before 8pm and starts after 7:30am so personally if you are somewhat of an early riser I would stay there... you can always walk to Poly to sit and stay at the beach for the day
Just keep swimming Just keep swimming

Is the beach closed at GF? Or are you just saying that because of the noise? Actually, my 5 year old will be fascinated by watching the construction!

If you booked an outer building/garden view, you will be just fine. The construction will not be intrusive. My favorite buildings for the room type you booked are Boca Chica and Conch Key.
I do believe the beach at the GF is closed due to the DVC construction but I'm not 100% on that. DH and I only walked over to the Beach pool once on our May trip (that is the only time we knew construction was even going on because we saw the green walls put up).

If it were me, I'd keep the reservations you have and stay at the GF.
-
For the 40% off, I definitely would keep the reservations at GF. That's a great deal..and I don't think the construction would take away from the beauty of the GF. Enjoy it!
"por favor mantengase alejado de las puertas!"
"There's a great big beautiful tomorrow, shining at the end of every day!"

I just found out that one of my friends is staying at GF next week so she's going to check it out and report back to me! Yay! I'll share whatever info she gives me.

This really isn't a big deal. I mean, it is, it's a pain, but there are still the boat launches and it just takes some planning ahead. We love watching fireworks from the resorts anyway. The perks of being in the location still outweigh the loss of the monorail for most of us who love the monorail resorts. The monorail is a very handy benefit, but that little bit of lost time after closing is not enough to take away the whole benefit of being in that area to people who love that area.
The construction, on the other hand, is a bigger pain, but it also wouldn't bother me if I had 40 percent off. That's a great discount.

What was the other resort you wanted? CR??? Can you get the same discount at another resort? I love love love animal kingdom lodge or beach club!
Totally agree!! With 40% off savings, it should be quite easy to "turn the other cheek". The GF at holiday time is magnificent!!

Don't second guess your choice. I think you will be very happy staying at the GF. You will probably stay at the parks so much you won't even notice the construction. Just make sure you focus on the fun.
