    Default GAC a few questions

Hi All, I am hoping someone can help me.
I am planning a trip for the Fall and my daughter has had a rough few weeks, we thought she had a stomach bug, which actually ended up being a Staph Infection, she was on a ventilator, and in a medical induced coma. while on the road to recovery we discovered the infection is in her bone and we are going through surgery to correct all this.
I have never had to use a GAC but I am thinking that with the Drs. having to get to the bone, she may not be able to stand in line and wait (the infection is at her knee) and since she is 8 years old, she will not use a stroller.

Am I a candidate for a GAC and do I need something from the Dr.?
Thank you in advance for your help.

I actually just found a stroller rental place in Orlando that has a chair that I think she will agree to use. Can the GAC allow us to use that chair as a wheelchair?

There is a tag that you can get at Guest Relations. It allows the stroller to be used as a wheelchair.

I'm sorry she's had to go through so much!

Yes, the "stroller as wheelchair" would be a good option, some places also rent smaller, child-sized wheelchairs. She might prefer that to a "stroller".

Just so you are aware, if she is in a medical type stroller for larger kids, you don't need to get a GAC. Those are recognizable by Disney CM's as disability chairs.

The GAC is for invisible disabilities, like issues with standing for long periods of time, emotional/developmental problems, Autism and related spectrum disorders, etc.

I would simply rent a Disney wheelchair for in park use and follow the Handicap designations for how to ride each ride.

If she simply cannot walk at all for the whole trip, renting the larger stroller might work, but you could also rent a wheelchair from an offsite company.

Also, most Disney resorts provide free wheelchairs for on site use for guests. Might want to look into this if you think she'll be able to walk sometimes.
