Smile Travel Back In Time With Me!

Something I read in another post got me thinking about this and I thought it would be fun to throw the question out to everyone.

Most of you know that way back in the early days of WDW you didn't buy admission to the Magic Kingdom, you bought a ticket book. This book had either 8 or 12 tickets of varying value. An "A" ticket was for the less popular or elaborate attractions and an "E" ticket was reserved for only the top-tier experiences. I believe a typically 12 ticket book only had one E ticket in it, so you really had to choose which attractions you rode wisely!

So that brings us to the question of the day. Let's pretend Disney World still used ticket books. Knowing that you need to use your E-tickets very carefully, tell me which attractions in each park you'd be willing to spend an E-ticket on. Remember you're only getting one E-ticket per ticket book (and this ain't 1972, so these books are expensive)!!!

    I'll start:

    Magic Kingdom
    1. Haunted Mansion
    2. Pirates of the Caribbean
    3. Space Mountain
    4. Big Thunder Mountain
    5. Splash Mountain
    6. Peter Pan
    Epcot
    1. Soarin'
    2. Spaceship Earth
    3. American Adventure
    DHS
    1. Toy Story Mania
    2. Rockin' Roller Coaster
    3. Tower of Terror
    4. Star Tours
    Animal Kingdom
    1. Expedition Everest
    2. Kilmanjaro Safari
    3. Finding Nemo: The Musical

Our first visit was in 1975. The ticket books we got included more than one...think there were 3 or 4 E Tickets in the book...E Ticket rides included 20,000 leagues, Pirates, Jungle Cruise, Haunted Mansion...and Space Mountain! D ticket rides included the People Mover and the Speedway. You could also buy books of just E tickets. (but those books did not include admission).

Today, if I had only one per book, I would have to buy 17 books....

    At MK, 5...
Space, Splash, and Big Thunder Mtns, PoC, and HM.
    At Epcot...3
Soaring, Test Track, and Mission Space...
    At DHS...7
RnRC, ToT, Star Tours, and 4 trips on TSMM
    And at AK, 2...
    EE and KS...

Great thread, Ian. I'm really interested in seeing these responses.

The easy way to answer is this is to simply name the most popular attractions at each park, but I am going to limit my responses to attractions I truly believe warrant E-Ticket consideration, regardless of their popularity. I will also try to list the attractions from best to worst:

    Magic Kingdom
    Splash Mountain
    The Haunted Mansion
    Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
    Space Mountain
    Pirates of the Caribbean
(I adore Peter Pan's Flight, but I couldn't justify spending an E-Ticket in its current state. Ask me again after it receives a year-long refurbishment.)

    Epcot
    Soarin'
(Spaceship Earth would be on this list if only Disney would complete the descent.)

    Hollywood Studios
    Tower of Terror
    Toy Story Mania
    Star Tours

    Animal Kingdom
    Expedition Everest
    Kilimanjaro Safaris
Dinosaur (assuming all the effects are working properly)

OK, you only get 1 E-ticket, so I will just give my 1 for each park.

    MK - Splash Mountain
    Epcot - Soarin
    DHS - ToT
    AK- Expedition Everest

Although, I have never rode Toy Story Mania, so my DHS would maybe change

    Hmm. Hard choices!
What did a book of tickets run, back in the day, anyway?

MK = probably Peter Pan (we ride it so infrequently)

    AK = Expedition Everest

    DHS = Tower of Terror

    Epcot = Soarin'

I actually have two "ticket booklets" in my collection, I will have to dig them out, and see if they are dated, and have a price on them.

    MK- splash mountain
    AK- kilaminjaro safari
    EP- ??
    DHS- rockin roller coaster

Great job picking the American Adventure. It's never been one of my favorites, but it encompasses what an "E-Ticket" should be better than any theater-style attraction. The Terminator 3D attraction at Universal would also qualify.

Haunted Mansion, Soaring, Toy Story Mania, and Finding Nemo.

I remember using our tickets in the 70's and the Best rides our first visits to Disneyland and WDW were the Haunted Mansion and all the Fantasyland rides.

For those who are curious...from notes from our 1975 trip...
    12 ticket book..
    adults-$7.50
    juniors-$7.00
    child-$6.50

Believe there were: 1 A, 1 B, 2 C, 4 D, and 4 E in the book....and Peter Pan was a "C" ride...as were most of the Fantasyland rides...you could buy individual coupons, or books of extra coupons...I recall that we bought extra "C" coupons.

If You Had Wings was the only free ride...and DMiL and DD#2 spent almost the entire trip there.
