They modelled Amy's character's profession after Mayim's real area of expertise so that they would have at least one person in the cast that actually knew what they were talking about.

The funny thing is that in an earlier season, there was an episode with a Physics Bowl where the guys had a team, but kicked Sheldon off of the team because he was being annoying. Raj said that they should get "tv's Blossom, Mayim Bialyk" to join their team. I wonder if they knew that she would eventually be joining the show?

I saw that episode! I found it funny. But I did notice that Sheldon's mom is played by another actress in some reruns I've seen. Interesting that they switched the actress who played her.

I must apologize! I just realized that I confused Leonard's mom with Sheldon's mom. So, they didn't replace Laurie Metcalf as Sheldon's mom. My bad!

Also, they have well-known Christine Baranski as Leonard's mother. I adore her and I always love when her character is on the show!

I love this show. My mom and I watch it all the time.

The sad part is, I actually understand their nerd talk some of the time!

I saw this post and checked out the reruns on TBS, I had never seen the show and thought okay, I'll watch it (not watch TV so much anymore), I laughed so hard every episode I saw!! I used to work w/engineers and am married to one, so it is quite funny how they are spot on with these guys. Sheldon is exactly like this one tech guy I used to work with who lived with his mom, even talked like him and had the OCD stuff

I love BBC Top Gear, US version is not that great IMO

New episode this week! I think the reruns on TBS have been such a blessing for this show. So many people have discovered it in channel surfing sessions and been pleasantly surprised! It's funny because I remember back before the first season of the show, I didn't think much of the promos and my mother and I both agreed that it looked stupid, was a plot we'd seen before in sitcoms and that it would never last long at all.

Boy, were we wrong! It took my father to convince us to watch the show after he caught a few episodes and bought the first season a year or so later. Definitely one of the funniest shows on TV right now. I think it might become the new "Friends."

Did anyone see the "tiara" episode? I really thought that was the funniest episode yet. I re-watched it with my DH and DS last night (it was new to them) and they were cracking up laughing. Bernadette and the kids, and Amy's reaction to the tiara present from Sheldon were priceless and brilliant!

I was thinking that Amy's reaction has got to net Mayim Biyalik an Emmy nod for Best Supporting Actress. It was just so memorable.

The only problem I have with this show is the number of commercials in it. The second half is ridiculous, they put an ad in the middle of the commercials telling you what show you're watching in case you forgot.
