Default What is MK Park Capacity?

just curious...does anyone know what the crowd levels inside the MK are when they decide to stop letting people in?

I was speculating somewhere between 60,000-80,000, but that is just a guess

I believe I have read 100,000. But I don't know how accurate that is. I have read that Disney does not officially release the number.

I can't think of anything worse. I'd rather be trapped at work in a blizzard than be there with 100,000 people. But of course, that's just me!

    "So it is."
    "And freezing."
    "Is it?"
"Yes," said Eeyore. "However," he said, brightening up a little, "we haven't had an earthquake lately."

I may be wrong, but I think 100,000 is high. I've heard it's more like 75,000 but again ... since Disney doesn't say anything official about attendance numbers it's nothing but pure speculation.

I have heard that there are stages to the closing due to capacity, and depending on where you are staying, you get stopped from entering at different stages. I have read online that they start this at 75,000 for stage 1 and stage 4 is 100,000 but all speculation.

Park "capacity" and staged closures are not a "fixed" number.

There are a number of things that factor in to the higher ups determining when to close a park for a time period, including projected cross-overs from other parks, traffic flows on roadways, traffic flow on the transportation systems, parking volume, staffing on hand, . . . . . ad infinitum.

At this time of year though, it is usually due to projections being exceeded versus staffing levels and ride times.

As guests exit through the turnstiles, that volume is then projected to determine how many will leave during a given time period and then the park will reopen and then entry projections are calculated and on and on and on.

For as long as I worked at the park, I've seen attendance "figures" (not really an *accurate* number, more like an estimation) as high as 77,000 guests (for a Fourth of July one year).

Was told a few years back that Walt Disney World receives more guests (and more attendance at the parks) the single seven days between Christmas and New Year's, than the entire three months of summer vacation.

The parks are closed in stages (1 through 4). I forget exactly what the stages are right off-hand.

    1. WDW closes the park’s parking lot to exclude new car-based arrivals
    2. WDW excludes all other transportation except that from the Walt Disney World resort hotels. That is, the park will be closed to taxis, buses from off-site hotels, etc.
    3. WDW stops selling tickets
    4. WDW closes the park entirely to everyone

WDW resort hotel guests who have tickets and use Disney transportation (Disney buses, boats and monorails) are affected only by the last closing stage.

Other visitor types can be affected by any of the stages.

We went to DTD instead of the parks New Years Eve and it was crazy there too.On the bus back to Pop it was around 8:30 p.m. and over the bus radio I heard they finally opened MK to everyone at that time.
