    Default How do I figure this out?

    Trying to figure out how much our room would have cost us if we were to have paid oop instead of using out DVC points. What Im trying to see is when I will break even with the original cost of buying the membership.

    1st trip Jan 8 - 15 2011 2 br lv at BLT
    2nd trip Oct 29 - Nov 3 2011 1 br lv BLT
    upcoming Oct 6 - 13 hoping for 2 br lv at BLT
    DVC Member as of 11/09 BLT!!
    1992 Dolphin Resort
    1995 stayed off-site
    2002 All-Star Movies Resort
    2007 (Oct) Port Orleans French Quarter
    2008 (Nov )1 night at POP
    2008 (Nov) Old Key West Resort
    2011 (Jan) BLT 2 room suite!!!
    2011 (Oct/Nov) BLT 1 bedroom suite
    2012 (Oct) BLT 2 room suite :-)

    You could go to the Disney site and see if you can get the accommodations to come up for similar timeframes so you can price them out at what Disney would charge to stay there without being a member of DVC.

    Don't forget to add the cost of the yearly maintenance fees to your break even formula.

    And any finance/charges if you had to take out a loan for any portion of your purchase.
    We were told 7 years is about the average time it takes to be ahead of the game. I keep a spreadsheet in which I log in all costs we have with our DVC ownership. I deduct the actual amount of a room only reservation cost for every trip we have taken using points. It looks like we will be ahead sometime at the end of our 5th/begging of 6th year.
