Which Dinner Show?
Hi everyone, just making dinner reservations for our trip in July, Le Cellier, Kona Cafe and Whispering Canyon Lodge all reserved (Ohanas seems to be booked up unless we want to eat late at night) and thought we'd try a Dinner Show for a change. Which would you recommend and why? We're a party of 4 ranging from self-conscious 14 yr old boy to 78 yr old Grandad. Thanks

I really like the Hoop Dee Doo Revue. We have done it before and are doing it again on this trip. We did the luau in the past, which was fun, but I like the HDD better. Those are the only dinner shows we have done.
I am glad I made my reservations when I did. We are also going in July and are going to Ohana. We have never tried it there and I am really looking forward to it.
Recent Trips:
-OKW Aug 16 - Aug 23 / Royal Pacific Resort Universal Studios Aug 23 - Aug 26, 2013
-Universal Studios Hard Rock Hotel Nov 14 - Nov 18, 2014
-Saratoga Springs June 11 -18 2016
Next Trip:
-Port Orleans Riverside / Saratoga Springs Sept 8 - 17, 2017

Definitely the Hoop De Doo! I've been to both several times and the HDD is great fun no matter what age you are. The lua used to be a very good Hawaiian show, but the last time we saw it they had changed it, added a story line, and made it more like an old Beach Party movie! Still had some of the old elements, but not as good.

We enjoyed the Hoop Dee Doo Revue very much but...
Make sure you understand how to get there (not difficult but does take some knowledge)and the food is similar to Whispering Canyon. You probably want to aviod eat at trhese 2 places back to back.

O.K. thinking of changing reservation from Spirit of Aloha to something else, get a couch meeting together (yes, that's what we call them, everyone present, kids lined up on the couch) and I explained the possible cheesy factor. These were the comments: "Cool, you mean like that Elvis movie in Hawaii that Dad likes so much?" "That's what we're looking for!" "Dad can wear his hideous Hawaiian shirt and fit right in" Yes, these were comments from DS13, DD11 and DH! Should have known, this is the same group who makes a point of going to the Elvis Festival every year and has gone so far as get their autographs and pictures. I'm not sure how I'm getting out of this one now--I'm beginning to think last yr's planning was easier--no one else had a spread sheet. I guess I should look at the positive--beer or wine included, right?!

The luau is two hours of your lives you'll want back, and getting a $$ refund from Disney is hard enough, they can't turn back time.
No more couch meetings, this isn't a democracy... If they want cheesy, the Hoop Dee Doo is way more un-BEAR-able... You'll need to go to find out what that means.
Trust me, HDD is your only real option. Beer and wine is included there. Not necessary though, the luau needs the beer and wine to help you forget how much you wasted on the show.

I've done the HDD multiple times and always enjoy it!

Another vote for Hoop de Doo. I appreciated the review of the Luau - I've always felt like I needed to do it (it is one of the few things we haven't yet experienced at Disney World), but it just didn't appeal to me. I think I will save my money for a different nice dinner out!

Another vote for HDD! We went when I was a small child and I remembered the show but not really the food. We went again when we (my sisters and I) were all now adults and it has now become a must do for us each trip! We have adults and kids in our family now and we all enjoy the food and the show

Congrats! Keep calling to try to get an earlier time - maybe you'll get lucky and catch a cancellation.
Also another vote for HDD. We had a blast, and can't wait to go back!
