Dsnygirl's "girlfriend's wknd" trip report, final day - Day 5....
Day Five, Monday January 31 - our last day
When I left off, I'd just headed to bed after finding a way to get everything into my suitcases and carry-ons... quite a feat, and I was SO glad I'd thought ahead to pack an empty carry-on bag in my suitcase. It was after 1am, and I was NOT looking forward to how quickly my alarm was going to ring!!
I was right... that alarm DID ring fast... but seeing as it was my last day, I was up and into my coffee pretty quickly. My friend who had travelled from Oregon only had until about 11am in the parks, so we wanted to get to MK for awhile before she had to head back to catch the ME bus.
We got to MK about 9:20 and headed for the Bakery, as neither of us had taken time to eat at the resort... fruit, chocolate croissants and lattes got us going, though! Then it was time for a few rides... one last spin on PoC, BTMRR and Space before she headed to Main St. We caught the beginning of the Move It, Shake It, Celebrate It parade as she left, and it was a nice, upbeat farewell because of it. We were already planning for another trip together, this time with our spouses, so that helped, as well. I was still sad to see her go, though... it had been such a fun weekend, and we'd really enjoyed having time together after years of just corresponding online.
After she left, I headed back up Main St.... I'd considered heading over to AK at this point, but was enjoying being at MK, and had never really been there on my own before for any extended period of time. Plus, to get to AK, I was going to take the bus to AKL first, and I was afraid if I did that, it would break my resolve to "downgrade" our August reservation away from this resort. We absolutely love it there, but 11 nights... just a bit steep for our blood once we really looked at the cost, and if everyone was willing to go CBR, I figured I'd better not even tempt myself.
So, I stayed at MK and just settled down on a bench in Liberty Square to take it all in and send a note to my DH... until my stomach started to rumble and I figured I'd better feed it. I headed off to Columbia Harbor House, and enjoyed a quiet lunch upstairs, looking out of the windows into Fantasyland and just people watching. So nice!!
Then I decided to do something I've never done before, and I went to ride rides, all by myself. I thought it would feel weird, but it really didn't... I wouldn't want to do it all the time, but just for today it was fun. I rode HM, Dumbo (so I could get "spy" pictures over the wall of the "new" Fantasyland being built... very cool... ) and then Space Mtn.... from there, I headed to BTMRR, which had a pretty long wait time. So I grabbed a FP, as the return time was still before I had to leave, and went to one of my favorite spots that everyone else I travel with has to be dragged to -- the Swiss Family Robinson treehouse. I LOVE it... it must come from my childhood and having always wanted a treehouse... something about walking through it just thrills me, and I always have this one spot I have to take a picture, every time. So of course, when I took it, I sent it to my DH and my older daughter, just so they could chuckle. From there, it was time for a Dole Whip float before I headed back to BTMRR - it was just getting warm enough out that it tasted and felt fantastic. I haven't had one in ages, and I was reminded very quickly of how much I like them! Then, after my quick spin on "the wildest ride in the wilderness", I was off to Main St and the buses... and admittedly, feeling very sad. I always am -- but I usually have my family with me, and I hate to get too sad in front of the girls, b/c then THEY will get so sad. But on my own, I really felt the pangs of leaving and sent my DH a face on my phone. As much as he'd wished he'd been there, he could feel for me and sent me a back, and a reminder that I'd be back soon. Phew!!
A quick ride on ME, an easy time through the airport and an uneventful flight home found me back in the cold and the snow (and with a car that had a dead battery... thank goodness for kind airport police officers who are prepared for this, and carry handheld "jumper kits" for just such emergencies!!) and before I knew it, I was getting hugs and kisses from my family, and requests to see what was in all the bags. No wonder they didn't mind me leaving!!

You went out with a bang, didn't you? GREAT last day at MK - from the food, to the attractions to your Dole Whip, it sounds like a dream day. All until walking down Main Street that last time. Thanks for taking us along for the ride - it truly sounds like you and your friends had a magical time. Looking forward to your family trip report!

Sounds like a wonderful time! My DF (and fellow Disney-nut) and I have joked about a girls-only trip. Your report makes me want to do it even more! Hey, I got over the guilt of a parents-only trip, why not try this? Maybe when the kids are older and unable to miss school so easily. Thank you for sharing your trip with us!
