$1000 more for one night GEESH!
We have a trip planned for Nov 11th through Nov 17th and since 11/11 is a block out day I have to make a separate ressie for that night only. If I go 11/12 to 11/17 its about $2200 if I add the 11/11 its about $3200!!!!! we are now thinking of staying offsite the first night to save some cash. We already booked our flight and cannot change it. Has anyone had this problem and how would you deal with it. Thanks so much!

We had to add an extra day and couldnt get in to our resort so for the last night we did a room only rate at a value resort and decided it was cheaper to worry about the extra meals ourselves and we still get to use ME. It's probably better to stay off sight or get a room only for the first night than pay $1100.

Hi,
What hotel are you staying at? Have you thought about staying at a different on property the first night? There are rooms available at ASM for $100/night. If you need more space, the Doubletree at Downtown Disney is a good choice and has rooms $98/night (suite).
Hope this helps!

Thank you. That is what we are thinking of doing, staying offsite the first night but then we have to pay for transport etc. Its such a mess. They let you extend into black out dates but they won't let you do it if you arrive one day early, stinks!

It's not $1000 more for one night, that's the price WITHOUT the discount for the ENTIRE stay. The day you check IN determines what you pay for the rest of your stay, when there are discounts involved. Since 11/11 is a blackout day, they are quoting your stay at "rack rate".
You can easily get around that by making a ROOM ONLY reservation for that one night (11/11) and then switching over to the other reservation for the remainder of the stay the following morning. The easiest way to do this is try to get a room at the same resort, and then have the two separate reservations "linked", so that you can have the possibility of staying in the same room for the duration.
Don't fret. This happens to lots of people and you can work around it for far under $1000.

Room only at an allstar would provide a lower price and DME. They will even transfer your luggage to the next resort if you wish.
Plan day #1 as a rest day, let the kids swim, visit DTD. Resort Hop over to AKL to see the animals.

Huh? I have it booked for POR 11/11 through 11/17 for approx $3200 when we redo the ressie to just 11/12 through 11/17 with all the same components just one less day its approx $2200. So what we are thinking is staying at that really nice Marriott with the lazy river and just hanging out for the first day then heading over to POR on 11/12. Does anyone have any ideas on how to transport to POR from Marriott with as little hassle and as little cost as possible?

The EASIEST solution is to stay onsite that first night (potentially at a different resort than your longer stay) and Disney will take care of the transfer. Additionally, you'll have the use of DME. Otherwise, all those logistics are your responsibility such as getting a taxi and loosing time with the transfer.

POR is available at room only discount on 11/11 for $134. I would take that and then switch to the package for the remainder. You could spend the first day at the pool or maybe DTD. As others have said let them link the 2 ressies.
IMO I would rather be there (even if I had to change rooms) so I could pick-up my tickets and be off to the park first thing on the 12th.

Great idea! How do I get the $134 rate?

This is the link I went through to check it

They should be able to book it for you over the phone when you call to change your package.

You're going to need to have TWO separate reservations. I think this is what might be confusing you.
Book your PACKAGE at POR for 11/12-11/17.
Book a separate ROOM ONLY (this is Disney's terminology) reservation for the night of 11/11. When you do this, ASK about the discount available, and mention that you want POR for that night.
Tell the reservation CM that you want to link your TWO reservations (using the two confirmation numbers you will have).
Keep in mind that since check in is not officially until 3pm at MOST hotels, that one night is really only like 18 hours. By having a DIsney resort as your FIRST NIGHT, you can use the free DME from the airport. By choosing the same resort as the rest of your package, you can potentially stay in the SAME ROOM for the entire trip and there will be no luggage transfer necessary. This sometimes doesn't work, but mostly it's not an issue.
When you arrive at your resort that first night, check in, and mention your SECOND reservation, and ask if you can stay in the same room for the duration. You will still have to technically "check out" of your room the second morning, by visiting the front desk, and check in to your package reservations. New keys will be issued with your park tickets and Dining Plan, if you are doing that. It's very easy.
That first night, just plan to do non park stuff. Swim in the pool, go to a nice dinner, visit Downtown Disney, play mini golf, rent some boats or bikes, etc. There's lots of options.

As long as you don't care about the dining plan, you can book your tickets with the first night's reservation, that way you don't lose that day in the parks. The second reservation can be room only. You can use the tickets for the entire stay. This only becomes a problem if you want the dining plan, because that requires a package (room and tickets).
As someone else suggested, I would get in touch with Magical Journeys. They can get this fixed for you at the best price.

Like others said..I would just do the room only reservatin at PORS for 11/11 and hope not to have to change rooms for you package resservation starting on 11/12. I would not even mess around w/ relying on transport from the marriot - you will be wasting your disney time.

I am doing the same thing is December. I had our package booked and because of flights had to add a day. I got a room only at All Star Movies for the night. I can take the DME to the hotel. In the morning I will taxi over to CBR for the package portion of our trip and take the DME back from the CBR. I have two reservation numbers, one for each resort. On my room only for a preferred room location was a total of $109.00 (I think). Thanks to Kathy at MJ she saved me some money on that reservation. I would just stay at a value or mod for your room only part.
Have a great trip.

I got very cheap flights to go the night before. We are staying at a hotel 2 miles from MCO the first night. I got it for $36.84. We will go back to MCO in the morning for DME. The hotel has good reviews for that cheap. We will only be there for about 8-9 hours. I would not spend $1000 for a single night anywhere. I have a hard enough time spending more than $100 a night.
