The smoking areas seem to be everywhere, they are located on the maps.

Yes: The theme parks, restaurants, resorts and transportation are all smoke-free environments. There are designated smoking areas throughout the parks where you can stop and have a cigarette if necessary.

All the smoking areas seemed to be just off to the side of pretty high population areas... You shouldn't have to go too far out of the way...

There are plenty of areas to smoke. I personally don't, but don't mind if those that do stay in designated areas.

According to the WDW website: the resort is a smoke-free resort & smoking is permitted only in designated outdoor smoking locations.
Michael Bluth: I need access to these files that are apparently for British eyes only.
Rita: Well, lucky for you, my whole face is British.

As others have posted, smoking is not permitted in the rooms or balconies at any of the resorts. You are permitted to smoke in designated smoking areas at all WDW resorts. Just consult the map which is given to you at check-in. I believe all resorts have at least 2 designated smoking areas.

There are several designated smoking areas, they are easiest to locate in MK. The locations are fewer each year. The map locations are NOT ALL ACCURATE, as they are constantly reducing the smoking areas. On our trip last week, my Dad was smoking in an area that WAS MARKED ON THE RESORT MAP, however it was changed. A very nice resort manager named Higgins approached and spoke to my father about it, he actually let him continue to finish, as there were no other guests in that area. Dad explained that it was on the map, Higgins apologized and said he would mention it to management, He explained that due to too many complaints about outdoor dining space, they moved the smoking areas. There are no longer smoking areas at the resort bar area either. Higgins spent about 45 minutes with them, and they just continued to chat about random things, it turns out he has family in the little town where my parents and I once lived for 30 years.
DHS, and Epcot have the most difficult to find smoking areas. MK and AK are easier to locate.
There is no smoking allowed on a balcony or in a room, in fact, there are pretty steep fines for in room smoking, so don't risk it.
In MK: next to the castle near Sir Mickeys, Near Thunder Mountain/Tom Sawyer, Next to Swiss Family tree house, nearTrain station in Toon Town, next to Speedway and along the path to the Noodle Station above the waterside pavillion.
In AK, behind shop at exit to Dinosaur, just above Everest exit towards Nemo theater. These aren't really out of the way.
I've seen people smoking as they walk along the parks only to have CMs stop them, and direct them to the proper locations.

....you won't have to go too far outta the way....I used to smoke there and when I did it was at the very beginning of the "no smoking in room" time....

No you can't smoke on the balcony, it's only allowed in designated areas.
As a former smoker and now someone with asthma and allergies I would like to point out to you (because, if you are asking the question I am assuming that you are courteous and want to do the right thing)
If you just think that there could be a person or child on either side of you or above or below you with severe allergies would you want to be responsible for that person ending up having to go to the ER to get a breathing treatment because you chose to smoke on the balcony?

I know it's not something I wanted to deal with when I smoked.
Many smokers,( not saying you but in general, even friends of mine) think that they as smokers are being descriminated against and break the rules but if you really think about the people that do have severe reactions you have to decide who is really the one that is being affected by the designated smoking sections.
Would anyone want to be the source of ruining someones vacation on purpose?

Well we might as well be honest about it, the smoking rules are like most other rules at WDW, they rarely enforce any of them. They just make a policy to make the masses happy. Every time I have been since the ban on smoking in rooms and on balconies was put into place, there have been people smoking on the balconies just like before and not a thing is done about it other than if someone complains guest services will call the room and remind them of the policy. I don't condone it, this is just the facts. One rule in particular that is never enforced that burns me up is the kids running around on "heeleys" and running into or in front of everyone. I can't believe parents will let their children wear them to public places such as WDW.

well when i used to smoke, i never seemed to need one until at night at the resort, and even then the smoking area was easy to get to. plus i have never seen anyone smoking where they shouldnt. either im lucky or its not as widespread an issue as some think...

worst case the parking lots seem to be wide open enough to snag a quick smoke...so long as nobody is put out by it and you don't litter..

Please don't smoke on your balcony. When we stayed at the Poly a few years ago the people in the room next to us kept smoking on the balcony and the smoke was blowing over at our balcony and in to our room if the glass door was open. It made me so mad that I could not enjoy my balcony without smelling like smoke. I put up with it for 2 days and was going to call the front desk on the third day but the people had checked out so it was no longer an issue. I did however let them know at checkout that it had happened.

If you have a Verizon Wireless phone and get the Disney Mobile Magic then there are designated smoking spots on there with the maps of the parks... It's a pretty handy thing to have... You can check ride wait times while you take a smoke break...

    Cool

Also from what I have read on Disney's web site. If you do smoke in your room or balcony they will charge you for it. I'd have to go back and read it for sure but I believe it was like 250.00. Didn't pay that close of attention to the amount since it is a none issue for us. Just remember thinking that it was a hefty amount.
If you think they won't do charge you just remember they have your credit card and it's most likely in the small print when you sign in.
