Default The Kitchen Sink -Beaches and Cream

    OK-

I am reporting on our lunch at Beaches and Cream on our last trip in early Feb. We were a party of 4.

My husband had wanted to go here for the Kitchen Sink. He is a BIG ice cream fan and had been wanting to come here ever since he heard of the kitchen sink-sundae dessert trough....

Our meal was great, we really enjoyed the food, but the Kitchen Sink was such a disappointment. The ice cream was pretty soft when it arrived at our table and it ended up being a soupy mess. I know it takes a lot to prepare, but if they just make sure the ice cream was really frozen hard, maybe I could recommend giving it a go.

I am glad that it is no longer a mystery and is off the "things we need to do" list, but if any of you are considering trying this, I would not recommend it.

Thankfully we were on the dining plan and we were able to use it for our dessert at a table service meal....I would have been upset if we had paid extra for it.

Please believe me I am not an overly critical person, but I consider you all my friends and if I can take away some of the mystique behind the Kitchen Sink and save you all the lesson we learned the hard way, I will.

I am certain the individual desserts would have been a much better choice for us.

I'm sorry you didn't enjoy the Kitchen Sink.

We did this for the first time on our last trip in August and I don't remember the ice cream being soft from the beginning. It definitely got "soupy" as we were eating it because we were there for awhile (It was only 2 of us eating it). We really enjoyed it though. It's something we would definitely do again being an ice cream and topping lover!

I'm sorry to say we agree with you... My husband was determined to try it (he actually got it AS his meal one time). It's beautiful when it comes out to the table. But after 15 minutes or so, the ice cream has all melted together so much you can't tell what flavor is what anymore. And all of the cakes/brownies that are in there end up like sponges soaking up all the liquid, so they become quite heavy. The other odd thing is they put like a whole jar of maraschino cherries on there, which is fine. Except that they had the stems on them, so my husband was finding random stems in his bites of ice cream .
But, like you said, now we can say we've given it a go!
Our waitress said there was one person who finished the whole thing in like 20 minutes or some incredibly fast time. I can't even imagine!

We did the kitchen sink in august. It was on our to-do list. We made a special trip from Hollywood studios that day just for beaches and cream.
We completely loved it. We will probably get the kitchen sink every trip. There were four of us eating it. Definitely more than enough ice cream, but it wasn't soupy.

I HATE soupy ice cream. So much so that when I order a hot fudge sundae at a restaurant, I request the fudge "on the side" so my sundae doesn't arrive as a soupy mess.

I've never wanted to try the kitchen sink. Too many flavors and toppings that I personally don't like.

To me, a banana split is pushing it with the different flavors and toppings.

We tried the kitchen sink in August. It was a big mess. It looked great, but it was really indulgent. It had so much STUFF in it, cake, cookies, brownies, muffins, you had no idea what you were putting in your mouth cause it became a sloppy mess quickly. It was a great to try it experience, but we wouldn't get it again.

Always wanted to try it but, we don't eat fast enough to ensure that the ice cream stays ice and not end up drinking flavored cream from a spoon.

Unless we have a party of 12 and are speed eaters, we won't be ordering that and will just watch and wonder at everyone who does get it!

My own sundae is hard for me to finish before it all melts. I can't imagine trying to eat that huge thing.

We had it once and it was fun. I won't claim it was the greatest sundae I've ever had (too busy for me really ... too much going on), but we had a great time eating it. It's kind of a "spectacle" if you know what I mean? Everyone makes a fuss.

I dunno ... I'd do it again, I think. Although I'd rather have more people with us next time. Last time there were only two of us.

On a side note I'm on a conference call and someone literally just said (as I was typing this), "I feel like we're throwing the kitchen sink at them."

The spectacle and the fuss part was good.

"A WHOLE CAN OF WHIPPED CREAM?!?!?!?!?!....and THEY think they can eat it!"

"On a side note"....conference calls are good times to catch up on intercot...and maybe those people need "the kitchen sink thrown at them..."

As long as I have been going, (since 2006) I thought it has been on the dining plan.

However, it is an itty bitty restaurant (almost too small) and it is the only table service dining plan restaurant that I know of that does not take reservations. You just walk up to the podium, get a pager and wait your turn.

My children and I took a side trip last May to have the Kitchen Sink and I agree by the end it was a soupy mess but our castmember gave us straws to slurp up the soupy stuff and it was just like a milkshake.

We will probably never do it again as it was a whole lot of everything for two girls and one boy.

But, with that said if I had to do it again I would. The laughing amazement and the can we eat it all goal was such a memorable fun experience that I had with my kids. If I could recapture those moments I would.

    We LOVED it!

PS... I don't think this was a dining plan option was it? If I recall this dessert was expensive in the 20+ range. I could be wrong though.

It took all four of our desserts...but thankfully it was covered in the dining plan.

I am actually glad to read some negative reviews of the Kitchen Sink. It is confirming what I already believed and feared. Every time I see it delivered to a table, it looks so beautiful. By the time that party leaves, it all looks so disgusting. Having seen countless before and after side-by-side comparisons of that monster sundae, the soupy mess leaves me somewhat nauseated.

I will stick to the individual sundaes and other desserts. Thanks.

We've done it a handful of times and have always enjoyed it but it's always been a party of 5 or more. Maybe a larger group makes a difference, unless it comes already melted.
