Niagara Falls - U.S. side
I'm planning just a one-night stay in Niagara, New York, for just 2 adults. Looking for hotel suggestions. Possibly something with a view of the falls ? Any suggestions ? Any experiences you've had, good or bad ? Visit will be late Feb. 2010 or early March.

We stayed on the American side in the summer of 2005, I really don't remember any hotels close enough for a 'falls' view, most of them are on the Canadian side.
I would say that it's going to be pretty cold in February....but beautiful. If you get the opertunity to travel around check out Fort Niagra especially if you're into histrory.

If you want a view, I would definitely cross to the Canadian side. It's only about a five minute extra ride and the border crossing is really no big deal. I've never stayed on the American side, but it looked to pale in comparison to everything on the Canadian side. Not that it won't be wonderful for you anyway. I hope you find something that works out.

The Seneca Niagra Casino has a 25 story Hotel that is a short walk from the Niagara Falls State Park. If you floor is high enough you will be able to see the River going all the way back to Buffalo. If you want a real good view of just he falls though, you may want to cross the boarder into Canada. Just make sure you have a passport or and enhanced Drivers License if you cross. Have fun.

has to be the U.S. side
Thanks for the ideas so far. We have both been to the Canadian side before at various times in our lives, before passports were needed. Darling Significant Other does not have a passport.
I was wondering if the Senaca Niagara had some views of the river/falls, if room is on high enough floor. Good to know that is the case.

Most of the hotels with a falls view are on the Canadian side. You must have a passport to cross the border. It is now the only ID they take. Have a great time.

We stopped on the US side before staying on the Canadian side. I don't know anything as far as hotels go but I did like exploring the NY side. I liked walking along the river and found it to be relaxing and pretty.

You really won't see the "prime" views on the US side. You can stay close enough to the park so you can walk to the park area where you can see the falls. I'm not sure what it is like when the water is freezing like it will be in February. There are some great places to eat in Buffalo, though :-)
Everybody's got a laughing place - trouble is most folks won't take the time to go look for it.

I stayed in at a hotel at the Airport in Buffalo (that is not anywhere near the falls BTW as far as a view goes). Then I spent a day on the USA side of the falls exploring the "park-like" setting of the Falls (walking & tethered balloon ride). After that I spent two days on the Canadian Side. I agree with everyone else here the hotel rooms with the best views of the falls are by far more plentiful on the Canadian side.
That said, I was happy at the airport with a view of the tarmack, so as you can see the view of the falls wasn't a priority to me at all, but Niagra was great!

I think people tend to go for the great view of the falls on the Canadian side but, there are some wonderfull parks on the US side that let you litterally get feet from the brink of the falls. Also, in February, if its cold enough it will always be snowing at the falls due to the mist coming off of them. Winter is a wonderfull time to vist the falls in general as long as the cold does'nt both you to much.

Check with the convention center. I have never been in there but it is new, tall, and it has a casino inside. You probably can see the falls from there.

I can attest to the Crowne Royal Hotel on the American side as being very nice. It's directly across from the Seneca Casino. No views of the falls but it wasn't a bad walk. We were there in Oct 2007.

The Canadian side is a lot more fun to do.
I stayed at the Seneca Niagara Casino Hotel on the American side and was very happy with the rooms and the restaurants.

How far away from the Falls were you?
Walking distance?
Thanks.

The Red Coach Inn is on Buffalo Ave, and overlooks the brink of the falls, walkable distance to the casino and it has a wonderful restaurant as well. Beautiful suites. p.m me if you want the number!

Thanks - I actually saw the hotel's name on the convention center website.
I appreciate the info.
