Default Standard view room at AKL

So I just booked a standard view room at AKL for late April. I checked out the map from Info Central. Where would a standard view room be?

When we booked one years ago, we were told they are in the front of the building facing the parking lot. We were upgraded to Savannah view when we arrived so we didn't stay in one.

We stayed in one that faced the parking lot. I kind of liked it though - we had complete privacy on the balcony (no one from the pool/walkways looking in) and beautiful sunsets. You have to be in the parking lot to really see the sunset at AK.

I had a savanah view last time I went (gosh has it really been four or five years yeeesh!). The savanah views were nice, but really just walking all around the resort was nice, and make sure to check out the big savanah area at night, it's so peacefull. Heading back down in less than a month and will have a standard view. I'm not too stressed out about as I know there will be all sorts of neat views all around. I think the AKL may be my favorite of all the parks.

We stayed at AKL a couple weeks ago (before Thanksgiving). We had booked a Standard View room, but decided we'd rather pay a little more to upgrade to Savanna view. So, when we arrived I inquired about availability and cost - we were moved to a really GREAT Savanna view room...and they didn't charge us for it! You might want to give it a try...

I have heard that AKL has the best chance of being upgraded, since they have relatively few standard rooms. Here's the key - it is the standard they are most likely to upgrade to Savannah. I can't remember what they call their mid-price rooms - maybe garden view? or is it water view? Anyway, those are nicer than standard to begin with, so apparently they aren't as likely to be upgraded. I'm really loathe to ASK for an upgrade, but I'd be willing to do what the poster above did - ask about cost and just kind of "hope" they upgrade me ;-)

At one time this was very true, but things have changed since they put DVC in the main building. All the club level rooms were bumped off that floor and they were moved down to the 4th floor, taking over a number of the savannah rooms there.

They still do have a small amount of standard view rooms, so upgrades are still possible, there just aren't as many savannah view rooms to be upgraded to any more. The mid level rooms are pool view.

Where are the "best" std. view rooms located that one should request? Are there any that do NOT face the parking lot?

You can put in a request for a non-parking lot view room and hope for something that may have an obstructed pool view or something that may be considered a "bad" savannah view room.

I bought some points from a DVCer for the standard room at Kidani. I'm hoping for an upgrade. I may look back and wish I spent an extra $400, but it never seems the case when you're spending the money.

I'm not very familiar with DVC, is it common for member services to give out upgrades to those renting on points?
