If you drive to WDW what time do you leave.
I was just curious for the people that drive to WDW from home. Do you like to leave early in the morning, leave in the evening or some other time of day? I suppose driving at night would work to help with traffic in places but driving during the day you can see the sites better while driving.
Someday we would like to drive at some point but I think we would take a few days and take our time so we can stop and see things on the way.

When I used to make that drive, it would begin after work, in the evening, so a goodly amount of the drive would be overnight, with lighter traffic. That also helped in that the trip would be 16+ hours, so I would get to WDW in the early afternoon.
On a side note, after driving for that long a period of time, it would be a short evening followed by at least 8 hours sleep before I would feel like myself again.

We always leave early in the morning. Mostly because we are just so anxious to get there.
The first year we went we left after church on Sunday and stayed in Savannah, GA and went the rest of the way on Monday. But, that took 1/2 a day off the parks..so now we leave early and get there late in the evening..hit the parks early the next day.

I would leave to minimize hitting big city rush hour traffic. Whatever time that works out to...

I'm a police dog handler in South Florida and work nights 9pm-6am. I'll take 2 hrs of vacation and get off at 4am, drop the dog off at the kenel, and head home. The car is already packed. Shower up and hit the road around 5-530. We roll in around 8am and have never had a problem checking in. We've stayed at the Swan so many times that the front desk people remember my wife and I and ask if there has been "any exciting K-9 work last night". I then nap till about 11 and head out for the parks!!
Love leaving early and avoiding the traffic.

I also live in south FL so it only takes about 3 hours to drive. I like to leave as early as I can in order to avoid the morning rush hour. I try to get on the road by 6 if I can. We've never had a problem getting checked in and still have an entire day in the parks!

This is our first drive to WDW, and we are going to leave after dinner on Friday. We have a 1200 mile drive ahead of us. We will have 3 drivers to help break things up, and I plan to take a nice long break for breakast Saturday morning. Hopefully we will roll into Orlando around 3-4pm.
Next Trip- Thanksgiving 2009

We leave at 5pm for the 1050 mile drive. We stop for breakfast in northern FL, and check in around 10am. We take it easy the rest of the day, I take care of any business, and hit the parks with full force the next day

We live in Minnesota but are a little north of you. We leave around 5 pm on a Friday, stop in Wisconsin somewhere to eat, then head on down. We drive all night Friday, and all day Saturday and stop Saturday night around 6pm right at the border of Florida and Georgia. Get up Sunday and continue the drive to Disney getting there around noon or so. We do stop and eat , stretch our legs and stuff .
We have done this 2 times now with 2 kids. We usually take a little longer getting back home and see somethings on the way home. The drive home takes us 2 1/2 days.
It is a little over 1600 miles each way.

We always take the boys out of school for our trips, so we try to pick them up as soon as school is out. Our goal is to get south of Atlanta before we stop for the night. This year, I think we are going to move things around try to leave at noon...in 25 days!!!!

I voted "afternoon" because we have an 18 hour drive that we do straight through. Leaving the in afternoon puts us at WDW around 8am.

The three times we drove from NJ we left about 11:00a.m., stopped in SC just outside Georgia and got to WDW around lunchtime the next day. This year we don't have the luxury of leaving in the morning (work and school) so we are thinking of leaving after dinner and driving for as long as we can, hopefully into NC, and then stopping and getting to WDW around dinner the next day.

Most of the time we leave around 6 am and arrive around 2 pm. That gives us time in the parks or a trip to downtown that afternoon. I have left in the early afternoon and arrived around 1:00 am. Due to the excitement of being at Disney I didn't have any trouble waking up the next morning to hit the MK!

It's now about 1 hour from the time we leave our driveway until we are walking through the gates at the Magic Kingdom. But before when we lived in NC we would leave about 1:00 or 2:00 in the morning so we would get there about noon.
Never underestimate the power of pixie dust!!
