    Unhappy Air Fare

Has anyone just gone ahead and booked their airfare at a high fare?

I have booked our return trip, MCO to PVD (Providence) for $120 per person...

The only decent (but not really) fare I can find for the flight down is BDL (Hartford) to MCO on 11/29 for $162 with Southwest.

I'm afraid to wait but have never paid $280 for tickets to Florida.

I'm not sure what to do.

Have you tried jetblue out of Boston? We always seem to get great deals. We even live closer to bradly and perfer to fly out of Boston because of the deals.

Unfortunately I have never had any luck with Jet Blue, for me the only time they have a good airfare is if I want to fly at night.

Right now they are $214 one way for a morning flight.

Last time I used Southwest Ding and ended up getting a deal. I booked each leg of the trip separately and bought one when I knew it was lowest, then another when I thought it was cheapest. It always feels like such a gamble to me.

I agree, try Jet Blue, USA 3000, or Allegiant for perhaps another "deal".

Good luck. It's always the most stressful part of planning for me!

I just realized I put this post in the completely wrong category. Sorry moderators. I was looking under vacation planning and then must have moved without remembering I did!!

Jeri Lynn, November 29 is the Sunday after Thanksgiving, one of the busiest travel days of the year. So given the laws of supply and demand, I don't think you're going to find very many cheap fares or "dings" for that day.

    Unhappy

We're having similar problems with our 8/30 to 9/7 trip. Can't find any air on reasonable flights for less than like $280 pp r/t.

We went threw the same thing-- we are going in August-- I just booked our flight down on Jet Blue out of Boston-- we are actually going down a day before our reservations at Disney because it was alot cheaper. We are staying over night at the Hyatt at the airport-- even with that it was cheaper then leaving on Sun. and we are flying back Southwest to Providence. So keep looking and be creative and flexable-- GOOD LUCK.

I have flown in the past the Sunday after Thanksgiving and was able to get a pretty decent fare. I guess those can't be found anymore.

I do watch all the other airlines, but Southwest has always been the best in the past. Some of the airlines do not offer the non-stop flights and the good fares are in the evening.

We talked about going the night before, but if I factor in the hotel cost with a lower fare vs. just a higher fare it's pretty much a wash.

We do the same thing between Hartford and the New York airports but we have been hard pressed to find decently priced flights...we are seriously thinking of changing vacations plans and going to the Virgin Islands because the airfare is actually a slight bit cheaper....crazy I know

I would love to be able to get a flight for $280.00. We always pay in the $400.00 - $600.00 per person range.

Unfortunately, $280pp is pretty typical. I remember paying $300+ flying Delta Express a while back, so after all these years, still getting it below that is pretty good. I think the days of $150rt are gone for the most part. Still possible during slow times, etc, but more the exception than the rule.

When we were getting flights for $50-75 each way we were going all the time. Now, tickets and airfare can and has put a significant damper on frequency.

Our rates just dropped for Labor Day weekend.I've already booked with credits and they expire Nov.15th so I don't know if I'll even bother to rebook since any credits will expire on that date.I'd save about 60.00.

Agreed! I paid $395 r/t per person for our August trip and I was actually quite happy with that. I think that is the cheapest we have ever gotten.

So let me get this straight....

so far i've seen somebody shocked they are getting a higher than average fair on thanksgiving weeked....

...and another wondering why it isn't cheap outta philly straddling labor day - actually, flying BACK on labor day (new jersey's last stand....as i like to call it) shame on you, Ian

Come on, now....the airlines are hurting for customers....but things haven't changed THAT much.

in an attempt to be helpful....if you book on southwest and then the flight goes down....just call them and they give you a price adjustment in the form of a credit for a future flight....

i would assume everybody woud know that...but it is a huge difference from the rotting dinosaur carcasses formerly known as the major carriers...
so in a way, if you book southwest you are guaranteed to get the lowest rate...sorta

I've always been jealous of you east-coast people and your airfares! I live closer to Orlando than everyone up there, but $280 is not unheard of for airfare from Houston to Orlando. With some of the regional airlines there cutting back on their flights, it sounds like the prices are catching up with the rest of the country.

But keep an eye out. I've often found that the best fares don't get posted until 3 months before the departure date.

Unfortunately I think you're right. The last decade or so we've sort of become accustomed to really cheap airfare but for lots of reasons I think those days are on their way out.

    Again the sundays are killers.
Just as a note from NY JFK to Orlando the difference in price from sunday to sunday as compared to monday to monday is about $100 PP more on a sunday.
In total its costing us about $200 PP to go monday to monday. yeah you gotta love the north east flight corridor.

    Hey neighbor, Rutland here!

For the time of year you are going I think you did fine. Face it, we get rooked in the Boston area on fights to MCO. You should see the deals my family in Philly gets! Never anything like that here.

Look at it this way... I booked Delta for Feb 26 out of Boston for $220 per person. I have to pay $15 for the first suitcase and $25 for a second each way. I always bring 1 per person and then an additonal bag with all our our shoes and toiletry bags... not on the next trip! Southwest will give you 2 bags for no charge. Plus, if the flight price goes down Delta won't give me a credit. If your flight on Southwest goes down you can go on line and 're-book' it and get a credit. Southwest will also let you change the time for no additional fees, just pay any difference.
