Has anyone stayed in the cocoa beach area to go the Kennedy Space Center and to go to the beach - we are thinking of adding 2 days prior to disney to do this - any tips on hotels and the beach itself would be helpful.

nasa is a blast... we usually stay at the holiday inn at cocoa beach but thats more out of tradition than it being a great resort... its decent with an updated pool area.... but nasa is fun. can get pricey depending on the tour u take but its worth it if u have any interest in that sorta thing
I was going to tell you to also check the launch schedule, you might want to try to get tix for that, you get into the launch area and also into the park. Check out Ron Jon too, it's fun. I stay at casa grandparents, but Hol. Inn at Cocoa would be a great choice
We went from WDW to Cocoa Beach a few years ago and loved it! Only about an hours drive, and nice uncrowded beach! We stayed at The Doubletree and it was wonderful! I think it was the most luxurious bedding I've ever slept on! Very pretty grounds and nice hotel. There were several weddings held there during our stay! Their pool area is very nicely landscaped and pretty! We drove to the Space Center but that was all, we hadn't planned on visiting it. We ate at Rusty's and Oh Shuck's, one of which was on the pier and the other a little further, towards Cape Canaveral. Both were great and right on the water. Be sure to stop by Ron Jon's if yu haven't been there, it's awesome! We had a ball shopping and wandering their huge store!

Ron Jon has a nice timeshare resort, Cape Caribe, where my son stayed a few years ago. They always have someone in the Ron Jon shop offering free nights for a tour + presentation so if you're willing to put up with the pitch for a few hours you might check it out.
