Thumbs down Just got discount email offer for Disney Cruise, I have NO interest in Cruise!

I just received an email from Disney for some onboard credit for a Disney cruise. I have never been on a cruise nor have I ever expressed a desire to go on one.

Was hoping it was for something more beneficial for us

    Just venting!

Funny how the grass is always greener... We've been on two cruises and we'd love to go on another. A discount would certainly make that easier!

I'm trying to figure out how they came to the conclusion that I desire a cruise. I dont recall ever asking for information on one

I guess your correct...the grass is always greener...but I would really like a 40% off hotel with free DD, that would be super GREEN!

Just wait, there will always be a new offer of some kind coming around the bend. As for me, I will be enjoying my cruise on July 18th!

    It's called "Marketing".

Why vent about receiving something most people would love to get....

Oh and you don't know what you are missing by not taking a Disney Cruise. If you love the parks and Disney how could you not at least entertain the idea of doing Disney at Sea

Well it's not very GOOD marketing. That's like asking me if I want to buy new windows for my home when I am a renter!

Disney is my vacation for fun. If I want to travel to other parts of the world for adventure (which I do) then I use other sources.

I think if Disney wants to entice people to come to their cruises or parks...they ought to know what their preferences are. It only makes sense. My venting is just that they have done neither their selves nor me any good with a mistargeted marketing email.

I didnt place this posting in the "Cruise" section (it was relocated here by a moderator)...but park goes who are coveting room/dining discounts would understand me venting....

I think it's kind of humorous that you would expect any business to read your mind and know your preferences. Disney is great, but there's even a limit to their abilities. If you buy a refrigerator, you'll get information about sales for washers and dryers. Buy books from an online store and you get emails about CDs. It is, in fact, good marketing. So it is no surprise at all that they would cross promote DCL to a WDW patron.

Well I think it is humorous that you think they DONT know our spending habits along with other businesses and marketing firms.

    Thumbs down

Did you ever to stop and think that Disney's logic behind this was that maybe you had never taken a cruise because of the price, not a desire not to take a cruise and that the reason behind the incentive was to make this possible for you?

I have told my DVC rep more times than I can count that my DH and I have no desire to buy at Bay Lake Tower at the Contemporary, does that stop the sales pitches from coming? Mass marketing is exactly that, mass. It casts a wide net in hope to catch something.

If you didn't like the email, just delete it and hope for something better. I would bet that there were probably a good 3 or 4 people who were excited to get the offer to your one negative. Not all marketing reaches all the right people, chalk it up to that and move on.

Exactly correct. That is what marketing is all about, trying to get repeat business and entice new business. While the OP clearly is not going to take advantage, I'm sure there are a few e-mail recipients who will. That makes it worthwhile.
