Wow, really?
1984: 14-2, went to the Super Bowl, lost to SF.
1985: 12-4, lost AFC Championship
1990: 12-4, lose in second round
1992: 11-5, lost AFC Championship
Seems like they contended a few times since '83.

Ok, so they only contended 4 times in the last 25 years.
Good luck to the Pens in the Finals.
I have to go with the lesser of 2 evils and root for the Pens.

Here's why ... the Pens have just looked better and better each series. They seem to be getting stronger instead of wearing down.
Detroit is still playing well, but I think that Blackhawks series was a hard one. An older team like that ... they're gonna get worn down.

The biggest myth going is that the Wings are old. They're not. The 2002 Wings were old, but the guys doing all the producing in this run are plenty young. Heck, Darren Helm scored the game winner last night and he spent the whole year in the minors.
Should be a fun series, but my Red Wings are still the better team. Assuming the reffing isn't as abyssmal as in the Anaheim series (and it shouldn't, with Walton and O'Halloran not reffing the SCF), Wings should take it on the strength of their far better defense and their scoring depth.

Yep, and by the time the weekend's over we will have seen two games. I don't like Sat. and Sun. games like that for such an important series but money talks and NBC wins. I am glad to have a lot of hockey this weekend, however. My prediction......to close to call.
But, Let's Go Pens

Thank goodness...Wing fans!! Where were you all when I was getting pummelled earlier???
Last night's game was outrageous. I have to give Huet credit...he absolutely stood on his head (literally) to make saves. The save on Franzen with the blade of his skate was unbelievable. I still knew the Wings would pull it off.
Hey Kathy......LET'S GO WINGS!!!

Plus I think the injuries are pretty significant on the Wings side. I mean several players who didn't play a couple days ago will be playing. These guys can not be 100%. Plus beat up guys playing two games less than 24 hours apart.? That favors a young, healthy team a lot. That isn't the league showing any favortism at all, either, as they announced there would be NBC back-to-back weekend Stanley Cup finals games before the playoffs even started.

Zetterberg is a great two-way player. He won the Conn Smythe, in part, because he absolutely nullified Sidney in the finals.
Should be a good series. I'm glad the Wings will have their best scorer (Franzen) in the lineup this time around. The Pens got a free pass last year when he was on the sidelines. That Hossa guy should help out too.
And get psyched for Darren Helm .... I've never seen a rook make such an impact. Fastest skater I've ever seen in hockey ... faster than Fedorov, Bure, Mogilny. Just freaky.
