I had no idea Neil Patrick Harris could sing! He's really good.
I now want to see Shrek The Musical and Rock of Ages. I'm going to start a hidden savings and surprise my husband.

It was an interesting show, that's for sure. I thought Neil Patrick Harris was entertaining and delivered a few pointed zingers. I know one thing for sure--I really want to see Billy Elliot. In fact, I found myself wishing my family had taken the opportunity to see it in London a couple of years ago when we were there. I think I might be in the minority here in that I am now a bit turned-off to seeing Shrek the Musical. I found the Lord Farquat number last night, umm--kind of creepy, I guess.

I agree Beth ... Doogie was totally funny and talented! AND .. Shrek, ugh, no thanks. Lord Farquat was totally creepy and although Disney does the same thing, it bugged me that the dialog seemed to come STRAIGHT from the movie ... at least Disney tries to make the stage production a little more broadway-ish...

I'm dying to see Billy Elliot, as well. I was thrilled it did so well last night and especially excited for the "Billys." I was very impressed with the "Angry Dance." It was also nice to see some touring performances (Legally Blonde, Jersey Boys, etc).
The only performances I wasn't crazy about were Rock of Ages (blehh) and Shrek. Liza didn't interest me too much either.

Kay, if you see Rock of Ages you'll finally get to witness Constantine Moroulis and all of his smarminess live and in person!
It was a fun show, although I have to say I did not like that version of "Sit Down, Your Rockin' the Boat." Maybe I'm just partial to the '92 revival and the movie and I don't like change, I dunno. I like Tituss Burgess but something was off there.

DH and I saw Billy Elliot in February for our anniversary. We actually saw the 'Billy' that performed at the Tony's and he was SO GOOD!!! I absolutely LOVED that musical and would definitely see it again. The only problem I had with it was the amount of cursing in the show. I wouldn't recommend it for kids at all, and honestly if I had known how much swearing was in it I might not have seen it initially. The story is great - the dancing is incredible and I don't think either one of those things would have suffered if they had cut out the curse words.
See You Real Soon!

I finally finished watching the show last night. LOVED Neil Patrick Harris! He is so much fun to watch and so funny. I loved the song he sang as the show closed. What a talent. I am intrigued by Next to Normal. Loved the song that they did from that. And I wish I could fly to NY today and see the Hair revival. That show is so much fun and has so much energy! The Shrek song freaked all of us out. It was like watching the creepy Burger King guy dance and sing. That is off my list of musicals I want to see someday.

I saw the original Hair revival in the West End in London years (starring my favorite John Barrowman!) ago ... it was one of the best shows I have ever seen! SO much energy and I have always loved the music! I really want to see it on Broadway as well. Let's GO! Carol get ready, Donna and I are on our way!
