I Finally Did It!

In the past, I've posted about my less-than-ideal boyfriend and asked for opinions about my thoughts on breaking up with him. He lies, can't keep a job, can't keep a vehicle, uses me, puts me down, etc. The answer was obvious--I needed to end things but I could only manage for a week or two and then I would give in and go back with him. Well, three weeks ago I took the plunge and broke up with him. Actually we just had an arguement and it led to a break-up. I am in school four hours away so that was easier but I just got back from a week at home and managed to avoid his attempts to get back together. Even his usual threats of moving and the boxes of presents that I had given him being returned to me didn't work. I think that I am finally seeing the big picture and realizing that I am better off alone than with him. The big thing was being able to cancel a Disney trip that he had promised me for our 8th anniversary. If I can give up a trip to Disney to get rid of the boyfriend then I must truly be ready to move on. Just giving all those who responded earlier an update!

I haven't been on here for a while but remember you having mentioned the problems with him in the past. Just wanted to let you know how happy I am for you. I know how hard a change like that is to make, even if it is for the best.

Good for you! I know from my own experience that being in love with someone you know isn't right for still doesn't make the break up any easier. When you feel yourself thinking well maybe he isn't really that bad go through your old posts about him just to remind yourself. Being alone can be hard sometimes but it opens you up to new experiences. Who knows maybe Mr. Right is just around the corner and you never would've met him if you stayed with the ex. For now though just enjoy being you. I'm proud of you for taking this step even though it's a hard step sometimes.

When you start missing him and remembering all the good times, take a step back and remember that the bad times outnumbered the good times and that you do NOT want to go back into that situation.
Just keep telling yourself that you deserve to be treated better.

Breaking up is hard to do, but you learn and grow from it and move on, sounds like he was not grown up enough to me. No man is worth crying over and the one who is, won't make you cry. Get out there and find your prince and let him bring the magic into your life and then take him to Disney...

Good for you! It sounds like he didn't deserve you, and was only pulling you down.

Just stay strong. Perhaps joining a club, or taking up a couple of hobbies will help to keep you too busy to be tempted back to him

As an aside, maybe you should have kept the trip and taken someone else. Especially if he was paying for it.
