Charlottesville, VA hotel?

We are planning to visit Monticello in May on the way to DC. I need to where to stay in Charlottesville. I am more concerned about safety and cleanliness than price although price is a consideration also. Thanks!

I was married in Charlottesville, spend every holiday there (at the in-laws), and spend the weekend on average about one or two times a month.

The Boar's Head Inn is one of the nicest places in Charlottesville. Absolutely clean and safe. There are lots of smaller places that would be clean and safe too.

The Omni on Charlottesville's downtown mall would also qualify as clean and safe.

There's also a Courtyard and Residence Inn that I would recommend, though are more limited service and are in safe but more retail/commercial areas.

Thanks so much. The Boar's Head is one I have looked at and looks wonderful but they are already booked. I will look into the others.
