Turning 4 on trip
I want to make sure I understand this correctly. I am helping a friend plan a trip who has a child turning 4 during their trip. They should only buy a ticket for the days that they will be 4 right? And if they register and bring a birth certificate, they can get free admission on their b'day. Should I advise them to get a park hopper for the number of days they will be there and 4 years old, minus one day for the free admission?

They will need a ticket for the ENTIRE STAY. Children are 3-9, adults are 10+

You're right, I forgot! Ok, they also have twins turning 3 on the same trip. Crazy I know! So, would they do this in the situation for the twins?

Our DD is turning 3 on our trip, and we were told that since she will be 2 when we check in, that she will be considered 2 for the entire stay. Therefore, she doesn't need a ticket to get into the parks! At least that was my understanding-I'm counting on that being correct because we have bought our tickets and did not get one for her!

That is correct, if your child is 2 when you check-in, then they are 2 for the whole trip.
We had a similar situation last trip, my DD turned 10 on the trip, but since she was 9 when she checked-in, she used a child's ticket, and the child DDP for the whole trip.

Same here. my son turned 3 during trip and he was free for the whole trip. We didn't even have to buy him a ticket to MVMCP. That might change, but I did ask and was told no.

You don't age on a Disney Trip... You get poorer, but you don't age...

So for the 4 year old, should they just get a park hopper for one less day than the rest of them? I know they can get a gift card instead if they want, and I will tell her that option.

If you're getting a package, ALL tickets must be the same. Everyone will need to get one less day and then upgrade everyone's BUT the one with the birthday. OR you can get the gift card if you qualify. Those with tickets (as part of a package) already I think are eligible.

Check the prices very carefully if you do this, because you probably won't save any money. Tickets get cheaper and cheaper on a per day basis as you extend your stay at the parks. Adding a single day ticket to a multi-day ticket is very likely to eat any savings you would get from the single day free ticket for the kid.
You're probably better off taking one of the other birthday perks.

If you're going to be there several days, it is better to pick something other than the free ticket for the birthday child. Adding an extra day once you have 4 days is only $2 to $3. Instead get the fast pass or the birthday fun card. I believe the fun card is for the value of a child's one day base ticket. You can use it on merchandise at WDW owned stores. I don't think you can use it for food.

I agree! Don't waste the birthday "gift" by getting a ticket. You are far better off getting the gift card (which will be for the value of a child's ticket) and using to towards your souveniers.
