    Default camping with cat question

We are thinking of bringing our cat with us. We are in process of trying to get her used to our motorhome. She seems fine, so far.
My question is for anyone who has taken their cat with them on a trip. Do you just use regular litter or scoopable? How do you dispose of litter/waste? We use regular litter at home, but I think I might try the scoopable. Either way there will be disposable waste to get rid of. I have no idea if there are rules about this?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

I always use the scoopable. Once you try it you will never go back to regular litter. Not only is it so easy to just scoop it out after they are done but my litter box never has any smell to it. When I used regular litter I just could not keep it from smelling no matter how clean I tried to keep it. With the scoopable the urine is contained in the clump so when you scoop it out you have no urine odor. I just scoop mine into a small plastic bag and throw it away in the regular trash.

I've never taken a cat camping but I have seen litters that are biodegradeable and can be flushed in the toilet. They are made either of recycled pine or recycled paper. I buy the paper version for my rabbit but we don't flush it. From what I've seen, they are usually a scoopable version.

    Hi!

We've camped with 3 siamese cats at Fort Wilderness last March-April. We used regular clay litter, and simply cleaned the boxes a couple times per day (we used only moderate amounts of litter each time). We certainly would never flush any litter in an rv's toilet
That's just asking for trouble, if you want my opinion. We just used the plastic shopping bags that you pack your groceries with, and simply added it to our large garbage bag and put it out for the trash.

BTW, my cats loved WDW. They love kids, and would sit by the windows and watch the kids walk around with great interest. They were less thrilled with the drive from NY to Florida. On the way down, we used the cat carriers. On the way back up, we put a sleeping bag over the couch, and they would crawl under the sleeping bag and go to sleep on the couch. I think they were happy to just be with us, though.

Can't say about cats but do know i wouldn't put the litter down the tiolet in my rv i would just bag it and put it in the trash thats what everyone does with the dog waste they bag it and put it in the garbage if your cat has never been in your rv shouldn't be a problem if they have no problem in a car i know some animals do get car sick if your cat doesn't have a problem with that then just put him in with you and away you go
you could try a trail run at a close camp and see how it works then decide if you want to try a longer run good luck and enjoy

We camp with cats. We use disposable litter pan liners so we can remove, double bag and dispose of in the trash canister.

We have a 5th wheel so the cats travel in a cat carrier. When we stop to eat, we take the carrier to the RV and open so they can eat, drink and do business.

    Hi 4daubers;

Do your cats actually eat and "do business' when you stop for breaks? I ask because my cats don't, and I am wondering if other cats, who may be more used to rving, are more comfortable about the whole thing...?

    Default Cats

I take two cats with me and use the same litter box & scoopable litter I use at home. The used litter goes in the garbage bag and then in the garbage cans, never had a problem and my cats love the RV. I have seen some cats that come outside their RV but don't go far (I could never do it though) and some cats walk well on a leash, it just depends on the cat. Give it a try though, usually they are just happy to be with their familys.
    Bless you, Terri

OK, I HAD to reply to this, cause my oldest DD is called KAT and she hates to camp!

But seriously, I would used scoopable, that way there is less mess sinking to the bottom of your liter box and waiting there. I prefer Fresh Step, but lately we have tried the costco kind(in the green container). It's ok, but I like the odor control of fresh step better. I always use the kind of litter box with a dome top to it, cause I have one cat that is a mess-maker. He must be practicing to be an archaeologist! It is huge and takes up alot of room. But it is the best liter box we have ever tried.

I wish my cats would like to travel, but they don't. Good Luck!

    Smile camping with cats

jrkcr, LOL I too have a daughter called Kat but she loves to go RVing.

In response to your "archaeologist" mine do the same thing (I thought they all did) after all it's not much fun if you can't dump half the fresh litter on to the floor!
I found in a pet store 'Clevercat a top entry litterbox'. It looks like one of those storage bins but it has a hole in the lid. My cats took to it right away, all 4 of them, they can dig all they want now and the litter stays in the box!

As for flushable litters, they work great AT HOME, I would not recommend flushing anything in a RV that doesn't say "safe for RV's". jmho
