Referring someone to DVC

What happens if you refer someone to DVC? I was talking to one of my friends about DVC and when she called she told them I had told her all about it. I was just wondering if there was some type of incentive I don't know about?

Sharing the Magic Rewards
You are eligible to receive a Sharing the Magic Reward when your family member or friend mentions your name prior to becoming a Member of Disney Vacation Club. Then enjoy the convenience of redeeming and viewing your Sharing the Magic Rewards online!

Reward Levels
A Reward Level corresponds to the number of referrals who purchase an Ownership Interest in the same calendar year. For example, a Level 2 means that you have referred two people who purchased in the same calendar year. Each new Reward is in addition to the previous Reward.

Level 1 $200

Level 2 $350

Level 3 $500

Level 4 $750

Level 5 $1,000

Reward Options
If you have a Sharing the Magic Reward to redeem, you may choose one of the following Reward Options:

Annual Dues Credit
Credit towards purchase of additional Ownership Interest
Disney Gift Card
Prepaid Visa® Card

I've referred two people. Both have purchased.

All I received were 'letters of thanks' from Disney.

I was a "referree" and we're not at a place right now to purchase a membership. But we get phone calls and e-mails all the time from the nicest guy who keeps trying to get us to buy.

If you refer someone and they purchase DVC... AND... if there is an incentive program running- then you can get something (Disney Dollars, money toward your maint fees, etc.)

If your friend decides to buy, make sure they tell their Sales Guide your name (the name on your account)- that's how it gets credited.
And then follow-up with your own Sales Guide to make sure it was credited.
But remember- they have to purchase- not just inquire.

The person who referred us got a $200 credit toward her annual dues. We were told by our guide that some states are "friendly" states and do allow such a reward. Then there are "other" states that do not. We are both from MD. He didn't explain which state does/does not. You can check with your guide.

We have referred three families. One bought so far and since we are in a state (Maine) that does not allow the incentive, we just got a nice "thank you" letter.

Tennessee is also one of the states that does not allow incentives for real estate sales. Your guide should have a list of all the states that are eligible.

Ahhhhh.......I live in TN. I guess that's why I got 'thank you' letters and that's it.

You should have gotten something if the person purchased DVC.... I would follow up.

SgtTigger lives in Louisiana and he got $200 Disney dollars when we just mentioned his name. I did not think they even wrote it down and Bret had no idea it was coming.
They also got a cool certificate when we joined.

I just emailed DVC membership about it and they wrote back the following:

Thank you for contacting Member Services. If you have a referral, live
in an eligible State, and you are eligible for the Share the Magic
Program, then you will be able to see a link on the My Membership Tab.
For further information on the Share the Magic Program, please visit the
Refer the Friend Tab located on the Main Page.

United Kingdom owners are also ineligible for any bonus! We introduced two families and just received the nice "Thank You" letters!

I do not blame Disney as this must be down to local legislation.. However, I do think that DVC should make this much clearer in their marketing materials and sales presentations and not just in the small print...
