I just switched it from Direct X mode to Open GL and experienced a significant improvement in performance. Maybe this will help some people to get it going?
Past trips
1980 - DisneyWorld somewhere ;)
2000 - Disney's All Stars
2005 - Honeymoon @ POP Century
2008 - POFQ
I tried this last night and didn't get any of the new features. Will I have to download google earth again? I downloaded it about 3 months ago.
I think there's probably been a version released in that time; you need version 4.3.
For those of us having trouble: after you click on the button to see Walt Disney World in 3D, zoom all the way in to eye level. Then use the navigation controls on the right hand side of your window (they'll show up when you mouse over them) to move around. You can navigate your way to the buildings. I found this on a blog post and it worked for me. I think the only thing the button does is check the box for 3-D Buildings on your layers.

Woweee, I just discovered this by accident lastnight. I downloaded GE just for flying over WDW and dreamin' and plannin' and noticed the clickable Mickey-heads. I added the 3D layer but didn't realize what it could do until i went in for an extreme close up of AK and realized......I am landing at the front gate and floating through the turnstiles!!!!!!
You kinda have to be patient with it and let the buildings render for a few seconds, but WOW, how fun!!!!
Made me think that there needs to be a PC and/or video game that is just a giant interactive walk-thru/ride-thru of the resorts and parks in nice high-res cgi. But then my DH remarked that we'd have no reason to really go then. Yeah right....hahaha.....hrmmmm.
