    Default Swimming in December?

We're planning an EARLY december vacation to WDW ...more specifically the week after thanksgiving.
Will my DS who is 4 be able to swim? Or will the temperatures not allow this?
I wanted to see it all done for xmas, but am now reconsidering...should i look into another month..sept? Oct? Nov?

It could be hit or miss. I have seen the temps in Dec from the Teens to the mid 80's. Even on cold days the pools are comfortable it's getting out of the pool that is the bad part.

You can click here to see the exact weather conditions for that week for the last 4 years.

We've been that week 3 of the last 4 years (though we're changing now due to the increasing crowds of that week) and we've usually been able to swim at least 1 day while down there. The pools are heated, so the swimming itself usually isn't a big deal. It's getting to and from the pool. The weather is so variable you can have 80 one day and 40 the next, but, in general you can probably get a minimum of 1-2 days of swimming in for any given week.

My daughter was 5 last year when we were there the 2nd week of December, and she swam numerous times in the afternoon while the baby was napping, with 2 towels waiting for her when we hauled her out! There were warmer days (70) and cooler days (60), but 65 degrees in December to a Pennsylvania girl is just fine for swimming!

In 2005, we were down the first week of December, and then again for the first week of January in 2007 -- Our DS9 and DS3 were able to swim during both vacations.

We keep the pools between 80*-83* degrees. Lifeguards do remain on duty, also. Most if not, all, have spas also, so you can always relax in the warm water there.

Chances are very good that you'll have at least several days while you are there that are warm enough to swim - perhaps the entire time. You can never rule out a colder snap, but we've often been able to swim in early December.

As others have indicated, it depends. On most of our December trips, we've had quite mild weather and have even spent the entire day poolside. On our last December trip, we hit a cold spell and wouldn't go near the pool. We did see a few people who went swimming anyway but they pretty much had the pool to themselves!

We stayed at the WL in October of 2006. The temp. was in the 70's and we thought that was great for swimming considering it was 40 degrees when we left Philadelphia!! We were there only ones in the pool (besides the ducks). The life guards had long sleeved shirts on and they looked like they were freezing. We thought that was soooo funny! I guess it just depends what temp. you are used to for swimming!
