This is just funny b/c we were watching The Wedding Singer movie and that David Bowie song China Doll comes on, the club they were in was the ultimate 80's club.
i liked Adam Ant and Bowies China Doll too

Wow - this thread has been a trip down memory lane! I know in my 8th grade yearbook I had listed "Sweet Dreams" by the Eurythmics as my favorite song!

Those were two songs I was thinking of - I loved Bonnie Tyler! Centerfold by J. Geils Band was another one.
I have to mention, though....my most hated song of the 80's.... "867-5309/Jenny" by Tommy Tutone! Boy do I remember being teased with that song! (sorry, that instantly came to mind when I thought about my 8th Grade yearbook....)

Try having the name "Diane" when John Cougar Mellencamp's song "Jack and Diane" came out... I was in 8th grade and man, I got so sick of being teased about "Who's Jack" "Are you going out with Jack still." ugh! But it was a good song...

Diane, that was a real phone number in the Tampa Bay area, they did a news article on it! Did you like "Jeopardy"??
No one has mentioned this guy (got this from one of my trips):

I know we were supposed to only list one, but I just can't come up with just one I'll put five.
1. Planet Earth - Duran Duran (how can you not think 80s when you hear that song and see that video? That was, to me, the first sign of the 80s and the first of my life-long crush on all the D2 guys!)
2. More Than This - Roxy Music (to this day, one of my all time faves and I still love Bryan Ferry!)
3. Run Runaway - Slade (just a really, really fun song that a lot of people don't remember)
4. Lucky Number - Lena Lovich (again, nobody's going to remember this one, but she was SO cool. I wanted hair and makeup just like she had!)
5. Love Plus One - Haircut 100 (really can't help but feel good when listening to this song.)
Oh, and all of the bands that made musical appearances on The Young Ones - Madness, Motorhead, etc. Just tossed into each episode so randomly...it was awesome! Mr. Bolovsky's performance of "Dr. Marten's Boots" - classic 80s tune

I don't know how you can pick JUST ONE!!!
But, if I'm being forced to, at this particular moment in time, although if you ask me again in 5 minutes I may pick a different one, I'll pick......

The first song I that popped into my head was "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun". But whenever I hear "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" I get wonderful flashbacks!
If there is a song that really "defines" the 80's I have to say that would be "We Are The World". It defines the conscious idea that we all were becoming a global society and are responsible for each other.
I noticed other posters saying this thread makes them remember 8th grade. It makes me remember being 28 and going into my 30's, going dancing with my BF, and shopping for the latest trends. Remember how music videos used to play on monitors in all the shops? I just flashed on the video "Pink Cadillac". Man, I wish I could do my 30's over again!
All the good music died after the 80's.
