I-95 straight down to I-4 is the best way, but I'd take the spurs around Richmond and Jacksonville if it looks good and especially if you happen to hit those areas near rush hour. You're going to have traffic no matter what you do though unless you plan to drive overnight.

What are the "spurs" around Richmond and Jacksonville? I'm guessing that would be a detour from 95? But what routes are they and how easy am I going to get lost?

We have always driven, straight-through from Massachusetts. It takes about 26 hours, and the midpoint is the VA/NC border. The Carolinas are painfully huge.

We're flying down for our trip in August.

First, you really do NOT need a car at Disney and in fact often times its a pain to have one. That's because if you decide to go somewhere else than you always have to get the car, park, get the car, park... just a pain!!! Either that or remember where you parked and get back there before the park closes. I do not understand people who drive when staying on site. Also, parking the car is part of the vacation!!!

That said if you want to have a car and don't want to have a car ... you really should look at the auto-train. We moved to FL last summer from Baltimore and that's what I did -- unfortunately they don't take fuzzy people so my DH had to drive. It was sooo easy and fun that we'd use it again in a heart beat!!!!

    ENJOY your trip!
