Fishing at Port Orleans Riverside

We stayed at Port Orleans Riverside five years ago for our honeymoon and I remember there being a fishing hole for kids. Now we will be staying there in May with our daughter. Is the fishing hole still there? If so, is there an age limit for it? Thanks for the help - Becky [img]smile.gif[/img]

According to the Birnbaum's book I have (2001 edition), catch-and-release fishing on your own is permitted at the fishing hole at Port Orleans-Riverside.

We were there last September & took our 2.5 yr old son to the fishing hole for cane pole fishing. It was inexpensive to rent the poles and purchase a few worms for bait, and I don't recall any age restrictions.

Our son thought it was fun at first, but after the first catch (& release) he wasn't as enthusiastic -- I am sure just a function of his age. Playing with the water foutain proved more entertainment to him, go figure.

We are planning to return this fall and I think he might be more interested this time around. If not, Dad enjoyed his time at the fishing hole!

Just returned from POR this weekend.

I don't recall any age restrictions.

They rent the cane poles by the hour and half-hour. I believe the "last pole in" is at 2:30 pm.

I'll dig a little deeper into my brochures and see if I can come up with the prices.

The fishing dock was open from 7:00 a.m - 3:00 p.m.

"Fishing rates" were $4 per half-hour or $13 per hour family rate. [img]graemlins/crazy.gif[/img]

Several times we have seen people fishing with their own collapsible rods (catch & release of course). They can fish anywhere on the Sassagoula River north of the Marina, any time of day.

Also note that near the Fishin' Hole is an area where campfires are held every night with marshmallow roasting.
