Video shows worker mopping floors then table at WDW

I've always said when you pay peanuts, you hire monkeys. And this is a perfect example. When you outsource everything you pose control, and that's what's happening at WDW. Has been for years, as many of us are aware.

That is nasty, makes you wonder how long it was going on before it was noticed. Think about how many people were exposed to the filthy tables while eating if this was this "cleaning persons" method for any period of time.

Why outsource cleaning? Don't they have their own janitorial department???

Anything and everything to save money .... the abuse of the H-1B visa program and the IT staff should have been been a good warning.

Appalling, disgusting & I wish some corrective action (not necessarily closing) but something dramatic to make sure this would never occur again.
Cannot believe the anger merely comped the hotel cost. If I was the guest I would have insisted on more too. Not just as a result of possible contamination but the overshadowing effect this must have had on the family's magical vacation.

What I find interesting is Disney's initial response that this is a "third party" employee, like that absolves them of responsibility. Wow.

They didn't say that. What was said was that the person was identified and is no longer allowed on property. That way Disney can get rid of someone without waiting for the third party to act. Sounds like Disney did the right thing.

Actually, the reporter says that, Disney told him that the woman in the video is not a cast member, but rather works for a third party vendor and that she is no longer welcome on property.
This does appear to be placing blame elsewhere, otherwise why mention that? We all know that Disney has been outsourcing much of the labor force. And honestly it does not matter who the person works for, while working on property, they are representing the mouse.

To some degree that is true, to another not so much. It depends a lot on a person's work ethic as well. 20 years ago when I did the whole McDonald's thing as a 20 something person, I started at minimum wage which was a little over $5 if I remember right. I still did my job. And I did it well. I took pride in it. It made me proud when people would talk to my manager about "the friendly person taking their order and helping them." BUT I was taught that no matter what you make you still do your job well because it reflects on you AND the company. Seems we've kind of lost that ethic anymore :/

Not that I agree with them, I don't. But I see why they do it. To save money on insurance costs.
I know here were I live, many "Permanent" teacher sub positions [where they get insurance] are outsourced because of that. And in general, our subs in our county are outsourced via a staffing agency to cut costs. Unfortunately it's the nature of the beast anymore in many businesses.

What Disney forgets, and many companies do, is that the contractual relationship between the company and the individual is not material to the customer/guest. That is an internal detail. Fact is, the third party is acting on the behalf of Disney and their actions represent Disney, which Disney is accountable for. It is weak sauce to point that out.

I agree on some level, but I also read it as disappointment that even though it's a thrid party, they may not train their employees with the same enthusiasm and pride.
That said, out of curiosity do these third party employees go through "Disney" training by Disney? Expectations and such?

I think this is how Snow White cleaned up the dwarfs' house...it's just theming. Besides, this is one way the larger public builds its immune systems. Minor illnesses aren't a big deal - a cold never bothered me, anyway.

100 sarcasm points to Mendelson!!
Unfortunately, this is one of the biggest negatives to contracting any work out -- YOU don't get to train them in your style. I am sure the contractor will be held accountable and there will be more oversight on Disney's part, but that does not excuse this happening in the first place.
I just hope Mousekeeping is not this lax in their standards and training. I have never had a complaint before, but now I think I will be much more critical of their work. Sad, but true.

Be interesting to see if Disney gets little more than a 'slap on the wrist' for this. I personally think that there should be a penalty of some kind... the retired heath inspector said that he would have "shut the place down" if it were him. (meaning the food court, of course) Too bad that didn't happen.

Since it wasn't a Disney CM, and instead was a third party contractor, it isn't really a big deal or indicative of any serious organizational dysfunction. It was just one rogue individual who has now been banned from the premises. Problem solved!
