Arrival Evening

So I've been racking my brain. We are headed down in late Oct. checking into our hotel (WL) on a Sunday but driving down on Saturday. We will probably arrive between 2-4pm depending on what time we leave. I'm trying to decide where we should stay for our "room only" night and what we should do. DBF is in his 50's and not a big Disney person but doing this trip for me. We want to hang out somewhere, have some cocktails so probably use WDW transportation and then have dinner. I know Boardwalk is a choice as is doing something at Downtown Disney. Any thoughts?

Well, I suppose it really depends on budget. If you want to treat yourself at Boardwalk and experience all the amenities for that night then it's definitely worth it. You could even add on day of tickets and wander into World Showcase if the itch hit you. But even without that the Boardwalk is great. Or you could go cheap and stay at a value for that night since you wouldn't get as much use from the amenities. Then it's easy to use transportation to DTD.

Room rates will have gone up during that timeframe, so have you thought about Port Orleans Riverside or French Quarter? A little nicer than All Star's but only $60 more for the night. Proximity to Epcot is good or catch the transportation down to DTD as it will have a lot of new areas open by then. You and the DBF can go and walk around and choose from a number of venues for food, beverage and entertainment. Then the next morning pack up take your bags over to the WL check in and if your room isn't ready just store them and off you go to the park.

Sports guy? ESPN Club. Movie Guy? That new Indiana Jones themed lounge at DD.

If you're contemplating staying at the Boardwalk, I would just add a night at WL. There is a "porch" with rocking chairs outside of the lobby area which looked out to the courtyard and lagoon where you can enjoy a cocktail and watch the sunset. You can stop on the way, buy whatever type cocktail you'd like, make in your room and enjoy the beautiful resort.

I like Animal Kingdom Lodge for a "hang out" resort. Hubby loves going down and using the night vision goggles to see the savannah.

Victoria Lounge and the pool area are really nice.

It is the resort I pick when the husband decides to come since he is not a Disney person.

Very good point Nanc, I've never stayed there at all. I'd like to hit DTD but it is a Saturday night so it might be crazy as well. Thanks for the idea!
