    Default Grand Canyon accommodations

I waited too long and am blocked out of El Tovar and Bright Angel. Can anyone help me with the decision between Yavapai and Maswik lodges?

I don't have any experience with Maswick, but have stayed in Yavapai and it's nice (as far as national park lodging goes). The room we stayed in was a bit dated, but this was some years back and I know they've been refurbished since then. Have you considered staying on the North Rim? The cabins over there are rustic, but they are right on the rim and the lodge (which has no guest rooms in it, just public areas) and it's views are spectacular! The dining room is amazing also. We actually preferred the North Rim to South Rim--it is less congested and with some amazing hiking trails.

Are all the Bright Angel cabins booked as well? We had a lovely cabin - the very last cabin which had two windows - both with spectacular views of the canyon. The cabin was quite rustic and included a stone fireplace (which we didn't use) and a small refrigerator (which did not work overly well) BUT to open our curtains and have the Grand Canyon right in front of us was amazing! One day, we had a deer come up to a window to peer inside!!

We stayed there about 5 years ago. The room was very clean and the beds were comfortable. It was just a basic room, but that was all we needed for one night.
